The pain and suffering of hard physical exertion is like a fickle girlfriend. It must be enjoyed and romanced. Why deaden the sensation with painkillers?
Ah, the exuberance of youth! We old guys need time off from our “girlfriend” from time to time. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

ParticipantFirst thing I might check is that the rear wheel is snug in the dropouts and centered in the frame. if the wheel is cocked the shifting can be off.
If it is and the problem started with fiddling with the stem. Did the cable sleeve get pulled out of a socket? Do you have microadjusters on the cables that might have been turned while you were fiddling with the stem? Is something like a light or computer mount clamped over a cable?
Look at the chain with it going over one of the middle sprocket. Does it look like it is right in the middle of the gear? if not you might try turning the cable ajuster so it is then testing the shifting again. Be sure to check the stops to keep the chain from dropping inside the cassette and munching the spokes. (that is if you dork disk is somehow missing)Vicegrip
ParticipantWas coming back east from the Reston area in the dark and also saw a long strip with a string of bikes. Little wiggly pools of white and white blinking with red blinkers in back and a group of 3 bikes that looked like a moving Christmas tree with white red and one with a blue wheel spinner. Was dogging it home with a grumpy right knee and an overworking left leg taking load off the right and got dropped by the rolling carnival .
Plenty of ninjas too including two 20 something ladies both in black yoga type clothing. Had the headlight turned down to keep from frying the eyes out of oncoming traffic and the only thing I saw was a single tiny reflector tab on one ladies shoes. Ticked that I did not have any blinkies left in the 3rd pocket. My M.O. has been to slow down before passing, light up a pair and and roll by slow with a “Hi ya doing on this fine evening? Please have these for free so we don’t meet by accident the next time” So far no one has freeked out but I have gotten the “what are you up to?” look from some but all have accepted the offer so far.
The headlight went in the downtrack position. I am making a flip down cover from some welder glass to mount to the front of the headlight. It is easy to flip down and back up and you dont have to move the light or ride with a hand over the light. It blocks all but a pool right in front of the bike. Some light makes it through the glass and it looks kinda cool.Vicegrip
ParticipantWhat do you know, this comming weekend I was planning on digging out an almost 100% unused 2 kid wide trailer from the shop loft with the dog in mind. I was planning on tinkering with it to turn into a dog trailer and to make a good hitch that will work with my 50 pound craptastic “mountain” bike.
I would like to see what makes a dog trailer work well compareded to one designed for kids. I also need to think about the best way to train the dog too. I live in Falls church near west falls metro and the 90 pound Boxer “Otto” likes to play at the dog part that is next to WO&D. Also a good excuse for a short hard ride with an extra 120 pounds following me. More than willing to lend it out if it works.
I for one would be interested in your experience with “invisibleable ” for now dog trailer. Anyone else have experiencnce with one?

ParticipantI rolled through right around 1:15 and the lights were out while a crew was working on the control box. No cops lots of cars including some that were cycle and runner friendly and stopped to let a small group from each side cross.
Glad you made it to the next level of Frogger unscathed.

ParticipantAny tricks to stop chain suck? Clean good condition chain and correct tension are top on the list. What else to do or look for?

So I have to tie my shorts to my shoes?
ELITE!
My dear wife read this over my shoulder and said she strongly disagreed with this rule. Seems she thinks me in kit is pay back for her manning the household helm while I am out peddling around.
Hiding her glasses helps too.
