ParticipantIsn’t that a VDOT maintained road? You can report “remove debris” issues to them here: https://my.vdot.virginia.gov/
Can anyone confirm?

Oh I realize you’re talking about that thing that used to be the Alpe De Crystal segment with the stairs that go up it. Didn’t see anybody there at 8am ish

ParticipantInteresting. I’m not sure that the two are related.
The MVT is NPS land, and the Four Mile Run Trail is in Arlington, but technically the zig zag part is an Alexandria project, but it is still under the control of the apartment developer.
I guess we’ll see this afternoon!

On the Mount Vernon or on Four Mile Run Trail?

Hi,
I’m looking for a hill(s) that is at least ½ mile or greater long with a gradient of 30% or more climb. Are there places within a 25 mile radius of Fairfax?
No, I’m not riding the TDF, but want to find out from veterans from this group if such places or hills exist.
Thank you.
30%? Not likely. And half a mile at 30%, you’d be walking after the first minute or so if you can even manage that far. (here’s the math: http://www.wired.com/2013/03/whats-the-steepest-gradient-for-a-road-bike/)
If you want long, sharp, sustained climbs near Fairfax, check out the Bull Run Mountain Estates:

If you are up for traveling a bit further, check out Vesuvius and Wintergreen:

ParticipantI feel like @The Enabler would advise you to keep doing what makes you feel safe, but if you want to avoid tickets, don’t run red lights in front of police officers within eyesight of police HQ?

How new is that bottle filler? I just noticed it last night after reading about it here (and just before I saw you).
I think it went in towards the end of 2014? Can anyone confirm?

I’m currently running Specialized pro Roubaix 30s, should I look for something with some tread like Sammy Slicks for the gravel?
Cassette goes to 34…if that’s not enough I probably shouldn’t be there

No need for treads. Sounds like you’ve got a good setup for it.

ParticipantSounds like they were very seriously considering cancelling but decided to go forward with it. If you see a guy named Brantley driving one of the support trucks, tell him BikeArlington says Hi and ask for him for a salt tab.

Speaking of centuries, has anyone rode the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo? I’m thinking of trying it this year, wondering a bit what I’d be in for.
It’s hot, hilly and hard. You’ll do it on a road bike but you want to have at least 28s for your tires and something bigger than a 25 on your cassette.
