That would be great! Think about switching to the long course, we can take it nice and easy. I’m planning on sweeping, so you might actually want to ride faster than me, but if you’re off the back, I’ll be there with you!
Cool that you’re sweeping! Ok, will think about it! For me it’ll be all about whether I can finish the course in time to still get the free food at the official festivities afterwards. 😮 Food motivation is still motivation, right?

Two from team two are signed up. DCAKen and I.
Me too! Except I’m doing the middle route. But we can have a Team 2 toast with blueberry soup afterwards.

Every Day riders – ______________
Hey all, do we still need someone to volunteer to give prizes for every day riders? If so, I volunteer to provide something utterly random and silly to everyone who makes it. (Fingers crossed that I shall be among them!)

Yeti Betties and the Abominable Two?
Hahahaha, I can’t stop laughing at this one… I think that means it’s a winner.

Here’s what I came up, although I’m pretty bad at this sort of thing, so no pressure to pick any of these: Two for the Snow (i.e. one for the money, two for the show), Winter is Coming, Wheel Friends, Ride Like the Winded, Abominable Cyclists, It’s (Not) Always Sunny in DC, Oh Snow You Didn’t!…if I can manage to come up with any more, I’ll post again later.
I like Abominable Cyclists! I know it doesn’t have the sun in it, but it’s got a lovely ironic ring to it.
Or, Abominable Snowcyclists?

ParticipantHey team! It was grand to meet some of you on Friday. And thanks Rod for being our captain on this heroic journey… Clearly, we got this. Hope to meet everyone else in the coming weeks.
Ok and now it’s time for me to eat a bagel and then get some miles in today.
Thinking of sun-themed team names in the meantime…

It looks like the consensus is that the Memorial Bridge (downstream, South side) is the better choice to cross the Potomac as the 14th Bridge is still “icy and yucky”. So I propose that we ride from the Cabi station at Jefferson Memorial to the Memorial bridge and cross together. We then have 3 relatively ice free options from postings #30 (go climb a hill North to go South) and #35 (flat 4.9 or 6.4 miles). I can do any of them. But please sound off on your preference if you plan to join the convoy at 5:15pm.
So happy there will be a non-icy convoy! Count me in — I will meet you guys at 515 at the Jefferson Memorial CaBi station.
My preference would be the longer route (because POINTS!) but I am just happy to ride safely so I will defer to you all. I’m not a speedy rider, but sounds like I won’t be alone on the tortoise front today. So that’s cool. Thanks Boomer2U for marshalling us!

ParticipantAll right, everyone! Mikey, you officially have competition for this side bet… I set up a fundraiser for Thrive DC through your Crowdrise page. My fundraising goal is $1,001.
I’m gonna spend part of Friday’s happy hour shamelessly recruiting people to join my team… let’s do this, folks! Tra la la la, it shall be a grand ol’ time.

Tawdryaudre, you’re on! I love that you’re going car-free and are looking forward to helping to raise funds to help others. I’ll contribute 10 cents for each mile you ride for Freezing Saddles!
Woohoo! Thanks! Just so you know and can budget accordingly, I’m planning to ride one million miles (give or take a few).

ParticipantAnother newbie chiming in — this is such a great idea.
I did my first charity ride this summer, and I really hate the process of fundraising (ugghhh, asking people for money — even if it’s not money for me, it still feels like it, and it’s the worst). BUT I learned that knowing you’re doing it for a good cause can also be that extra kick of motivation to keep up the training, or to go those last 20 miles when you’d rather just curl up in a ball in that pile of leaves over there, or to say no to that 4th beer on Friday (umm…) so you can get up and ride on Saturday, etc.
I mean, the whole thing I love about FS is that the competition itself is going to be motivation to get out there and ride. But… it’s gonna be cold. Every extra kick will help.
So, yeah. I want to help! Maybe I’ll start a second team? Gonna think of a charity to pick.

ParticipantThis is so fantastic. I’m brand-new to the forum (hey, folks) and found out about this through WABA’s Women & Bicycles group. I just sold my car (!) and was starting to doubt my sanity for doing so right at the start of winter… But I’m psyched that this competition’s gonna help me plow through those chilly commutes and brave the weekend rides, too. Just gotta remember to start turning Strava on again.
Thanks in advance to all you fine planning people and whatnot!
