That was such a fun and brutal day on the bike! Huge props to everyone that came out, ate pizza, had fun, took pictures, and crushed the course that crushed back.

I will find some time this week to write more about this past weekend, but just wanted to say thanks to everyone that made the trip! Seeing all of your faces out there on Saturday was enough to pull me out of my dark place and keep me going!

Unless something unexpected happens, I will be there.

    Calling all sandbaggers!!!

Please have all walks/adoptions/cleanings/etc uploaded here by NOON on March 20th, 2019!!!

Also, a HUGE thank you to everyone who has stopped by and walked dogs. It is a huge help to those that run the shelter, and the dogs love it too.

Once the competition is over, please do not stop volunteering. In fact, you should volunteer more and get all of your friends to volunteer also. 😎

Well, the “Second Star to the Right” contingent (that’s the name of our VRBO; it better live up to it), comprising seven of us in three vehicles are going down tomorrow, also. I’d be delighted to eat some pizza. I can bring Fibbage and Drawful (ridiculously fun), as well as Cards Against Velocipedes (customized Cards Against H for us bicyclists). Will check in to see what the others at the Star wanna do.

Excellent. You have both my cell number and email, so just let me know!

found an email from Enve telling me I had won an entry through them for the Dirty Kanza in june. WHAT?! I am not worthy… or ready. Yikes.

DUDE!!! That is quite exciting! Let me know if you need/want any Kanza prep advice. Although, the course is almost completely different this year, which I am bummed about missing, but I will be back next year!

Pizza dough is made, bags are being packed, and bikes are prepped!

If you are coming down Thursday, and want to join in on the pizza party let me know (preferably by PM, so I get an email notification) and I will shoot you the address. We should be there by 4:00 and will probably have pizzas ready to go in the oven around 7:00. BYOB and some pizza toppings if you want anything special. The house does have a pool, but I am not sure if it is heated (or even open this early). It also has a ping pong table, so bring your a-game!

I also recommend the lovely folks at Bikenetic. Pete Beers has done wonderful work with Di2 stuff. Plus, when you drop your bike off, you can have pie! ;)

I am more than a little bummed to miss this. :(

I am sending you well wishes for a safe journey and an unforgettable (in a good way) adventure!

I really think that should be covered by health insurance in cases like these.

I 100% agree with this statement!

So sorry to hear about your injury and your daughter’s crash. It sounds like she is a tough one, though. Rest up and heal quickly.

…but I’ve heard good things about High Line in Crystal City?

If you can wait until Wednesday, a few folks will already be at High Line for a happy hour Q&A/meet&greet for Croatan. :D

Welp. And so it’s come to this. At the end of grueling, riding-time eating diplo-boot-camp, I was reassigned Sao Paulo. This wasn’t a surprise.

What was a surprise is I just learned they want us there ASAP. As in, they wanted me to leave next Tuesday. 😮 Long story short, I was able to get it pushed back a bit, but my new departure date is Monday, March 18th.

Sadly, this doesn’t leave much time for the goodbye tour I would’ve liked to have arranged, but hopefully I’ll be able to see some folks before I go–I should have more time to do that next week.

I am both happy and sad about this. This is an exciting adventure and I know you will have an amazing experience. But I am super sad that the region will lose you (at least for a while). I am hoping to catch up with you before you leave, but if not, safe travels and please keep us updated on things!

Are garage races #NOBAFS this year? Does it depend on the garage and how exposed to the elements it is?

I always used them, especially since I rode to/from the races and just kept a continuous recording. It is definitely NOT warm in the garage, so (not that my opinion counts or anything), I would say it counts.

I took a modified version of bentbike’s detour on the way home yesterday and LOVED it. Sure, there was a hill or two, but it was so much more interesting than that awful section of the W&OD between the Custis and Brandymore.

I ended up getting off the Custis at Westover Park and took 11th to 14th to McKinley and up the new(ish?) path to the pedestrian bridge. It was quite lovely.

Just an FYI… There is a pre-Croatan Q&A being sponsored by Team-Not-Team at Highline RxR in Crystal City on Wednesday, March 13th.

This is geared towards women, but anyone is welcome (just keep Casey’s Rule #1 in mind) to grab a drink and chat about the upcoming race.

    FB event here:
    https://www.facebook.com/events/362444677929787/

I should be there right around 5:30 and hope to see some of you folks there!

Also, I got Matt & Gordon (race organizers) together with the folks behind the Team Bikenetic Bicycle Shorts podcast for some behind the scenes info. Listen here.
