My map will give you a lower stress route. If you don’t mind it, just take the lane then bike lane westbound on Lee Hwy westbound (that’s what I do).
Got it. Thanks!

SO Wed. night I rode out the Custis West to the W&OD from Rosslyn. I followed one sign that said “detour”, ended up taking my bike down the stairs, and it was no problem after that.Tonight, I’m riding East again that way to see Accordioneur and his band play at Westover Beer Garden.
Has the detour route changed from Rosslyn to the 11th St. Exit from the Custis? I think that’s how I’ll get to Westover.
[I’m not familiar enough with the Custis to know all the intersections you all describe in this thread.]Any help you can offer is great!
Also, returning home (heading East ) on Wed night, I was confused by the signage- maybe it was at Lincoln Street. There was a sign that said “Detour” but I followed it and there was nothing. So I went back and just took the trail and I think it was fine.
Maybe that’s changed too….Here’s Dasgeh’s map – should I use this?

I looked at Dasgeh’s map – and will try it tonight!

I did the full 67 miles last year. Prior to that I had basically been doing my 20 mile round trip (about as irregularly as usual) Plus I did one half of Boundary Stones two weeks before. And a few semi long weekend rides. I hope to ride it this year and would be happy to ride with you on the 67 or on any part (the food stops tend to break it up into several segments)
I will also need a ride, unless I want to deal with putting the wheels back on the bike when I get there
That sounds great!! I think i’ll try to do the 67 with you!

ParticipantWell, I’m gonna register. Maybe for the 67– though that means I’ll have to do some longer rides to get ready. Or maybe the 53 miles.
Does anyone want to do the 53 miles with me? Also, I’d be interested in carpooling since I have no car. Happy to help with gas $.

Someone is selling a pair of road BB7s on DC Used for $20. That would be $20 well spent.
Well, since you said so Hozn: Guess what? I just might be buying those BB7’s tomorrow. Guess what else: the seller’s name is Hans!! Coincidence???!!
Also, I may be asking Jon R or someone else to help me install them since he’s not far away!!

Hey team, a friend was hit by a car this morning on the way in. She seems fine but shaken up, a driver right hooked her at the Key Bridge Marriott parking entrance on Lee. She got the driver info but didn’t call the police. I thought I saw a thread with accident advice, can someone send link? She rode the rest of the way to work, just called the police and they said they won’t make a report unless she goes to a hospital? thx
So sorry this happened, and hope she’s OK.
From WABA’s website:
“What do I do immediately after a crash?
Stay calm and assess yourself. If thereās a possibility of serious injury, stay still and wait to be examined by EMTs or a doctor. High-stress situations spike adrenaline and endorphin levels so you donāt feel pain, so you may be more hurt than you think.
Donāt ride away. You may not realize the extent of your injuries until you leave the crash site.
Iām physically OK. Whatās next?
If no one has, call the policeāeven if everything seems fine. An officer can help create an objective account of what happened, which is critically important if you develop injuries later or if insurance companies have to be involved.
And, in order for WABA to make cycling safer, crashes need to be reported as accurately as possible. By reporting your crash, you may save lives in the future. Some crashes without injuries or property damage will not generate an official crash report document but will be recorded as a reported crash.
The cops are here. Now what?
Gather information to ensure that you arenāt taken advantage of in the proceedings after a crash. You should know the following:
ā¾The names, driverās license numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of any other drivers, bicyclists, or pedestrians involved in the crash. This means vehicle operators, not passengers.
ā¾The insurance companies and policy numbers of those people
ā¾The makes, models, and license plate numbers of any vehicles involved in the crash.
ā¾The names and contact info of at least two witnesses, if there were any. Passengers of drivers in a crash are not witnesses.
ā¾The police report number. Make sure the officer takes a cyclist statement from you. Not just the driver or witnesses.
ā¾The name and badge number of at least one police officer who responded to the scene. Most police officers carry business cards; ask for one.If you have a camera or smartphone, take pictures of any damage to bikes or cars. Make sure you take pictures of all damage, not just damage to your property. If fighting an insurance claim, you want to have your own documentation.
As soon as you feel calm enough, and have time, write a description of the events before, during, and after the crash. Try to use objective, descriptive language and avoid assigning blame.
Our crash form and mobile app are helpful tools for recording this information and putting together descriptions. If youāre able, consider filling out our crash tracker. We use data submitted through the crash tracker to make recommendations to elected officials and police, and itās important to capture data not recorded by official collection methods.
Iāve recorded all information I know of. Now what?
If you have questions, call WABA at (202) 518-0524 x225. Leave a message if calling after normal business hours and weāll call you the next business day.
