    That’s genius.
I had long wondered how the winter commuter could keep their levers clean in foul weather.

Quick question on the last pic.
Does the front tires’ tread face rearward?

That is really sad but not at all surprising.

Seems like dealing with the police can be a waste of time (not really surprising to any of us really). Guess I would have to think about contacting the authorities if I were in a similar situation. Seems from a few other threads here more headaches are created than resolved. It just sucks that people get away with treating others like that.

I agree…my Saturday work schedule…probably not so much, although that time of the year I’m usually ready to pay off some colleagues to cover a Saturday.

The donation requirements are actually very low…it’s basically a buy in ($30-35) and whatever you can give/get.

Damn this sounds fun, too bad my presence is required at a good friends wedding. Being an adult is lame sometimes. Good luck fellas.

I’d go for the first option. Martha’s Vineyard (no actual vineyard) deserves a trip of its own, and is easily explored by bike at a leisurely pace.

We have turned into those people now so a winery really is something we would do for fun already. Heading up to New England usually takes several days to meet and eat with all required family members.

Another addition to your pro/con list, you may want to consider overall weather too. May 5th seems kinda early in the season for a ride up in New England.

Would it be impossible to make a longer trip out of it and head out to Colorado or Arizona? :) One of these days I need to see what riding in the high desert or in the Rockies feels like.

Oh I didn’t even think about that….I hate the icy Atlantic “springs”. I have a selective memory loss when it comes what I deem as unacceptably cold weather. Especially when it is just warm enough to rain but cold enough that it freezes. Just gross. Ha thanks for jogging my memory.

I would rather take the gamble on a trip to somewhere new but for this one I’d really like to keep it a good driving distance. My patience for car trips seems to be decreasing the older I get. Five hours in the car should be just about enough. We do typically make the trip up 95 to RI at least twice in the spring and summer, but I have yet to meet 75W from Richmond.

I find the idea of recreational destination vacations quite interesting. I’m not at the point in this hobby where my equipment is worth shipping but I like my bike and do not much care for rental fleets (exception being the convenience of BikeShare). I need to build a better collection, but this is still a point of miscommunication in my house these days. I think riding through the desert or the Rockies would be an epic ride and might be worth the headaches and logistics issues.

    Congratulations,

That sounds like a fun challenge.

Did you feel like riding the next day?
The last distance ride I did I wanted to get back out there the next day.

Tell me that wouldn’t make for the best pace vehicle.

I could very well have been just training for a future ride with whomever.

Just another day at the office for some guys out there. I really don’t know if I would consider riding while armed and probably wearing a vest. Must be pretty stressful, even in ideal conditions.

I wouldn’t mind an Fenty level police escort. http://dcist.com/2009/11/wtop_mayor_fenty_using_police_escor.php
Although a yellow suv constantly following you too would get a little old.
    Good ole WTOP.

I love the behind the scenes stuff that goes with living where we live but I stick to reading about it on the beach.

If ever there were a case were the intent to cause bodily harm to another individual was cut and dry this would might be it. Not only does the guy slow down to verbally taunt the cyclist but then makes the conscious decision to use his vehicle as a weapon.

I’m so waiting to see the rides a 10 speed everywhere on the news to make me feel really bad about calling today a rest day.

I’ve got some wine being chilled, what does goes with drenching rain and wind? I was thinking a crisp white. :)

    Cheers and stay safe all.

Amazing that a 5.8 100 miles away could cause such a commotion. In California, that would have been a total ho hum. I tried to explain to my co-workers that a new steel and glass building can handle that amount of shaking no sweat. But oh well, they were out in the streets!

I wonder if the plates we sit on are made of rock that transmits shock over a longer distance as opposed to west coast faults. The distance and intensity reported all over the east coast seem pretty interesting. The fact that the majority of the life long east coast residents (myself included) have never felt an earthquake of maybe a magnitude of 3 could also be a slight contributing factor to the reports. Seems like something very instinctual in everyone says “Get up now and move”.

What seems really…well kind of frightening is the lack of preparedness and failure of the cell networks, and fairly quick traffic lockdown in many segments of the area. I know my wife and I don’t have a backup plan if something more significant (>non forecasted weather) or if relocation were needed.
This area is still dangerously unprepared.

Seems like our weather phenomena tend to come in twos.
    What’s going on here…

So I guess we might be able to answer the question many of us asked during the week after the blizzard, the same storm with rain would be much easier…seems like now we might find out.

Aha so there is even a term for these miscreants! But unlike salmon these people don’t have the valiant mission to procreate (well maybe a few). I would love for WABA or the city itself roll out a campaign against “Salmoning”, definitely need to raise awareness and discussion about this, thanks!

lol, I saw this sign in Boston (Harvard Sq area.)

    Signage might be one option.
