(sorry I only ride west of Alexandria, I needed a picture) That seems like an interesting commute. Good Luck with an alternate route. Stay safe out there.

A little bit of danger makes the ride interesting but as with all things tourists will try to get into the way.

I grew up in Southern New England (MA)…we had no such thing as true Southern Barbecue to speak of like you will find down here. I love it, all of it. Seafood is better there but ‘cue is strictly south.

It’s good BBQ but I’m still waiting to find great BBQ in the region. I’m not sure there is, and I’d love for someone to prove me wrong.

Oh my friend we speak the same language. What type are you looking for? I am quite partial to Eastern North Carolina style, with spicy vinegar based sauce.

I like Carolina Brothers, they are very bike friendly and their food seriously hits the spot for trailside barbecue.
We pass by here twice on a typical ride and the trip west they are usually stoking the coals. On the return a few hours later we are always tempted to stop. We typically park at either Vienna or off 28 and head west…this place is only 10 minutes by car from the lot on 28. Although there is a lot right nearby and it might make a good start/stop point to some.

If you haven’t checked this place out it is a must.

    Oh god…more accidents. badboy.gif
I really do hope for the best for her and the others that have been hit recently.

Crash statistics are interesting (http://www.bhsi.org/stats.htm). Looking at processed numbers is one thing but reading the headlines puts names to the numbers.

This should serve as a reminder to all of us. Even if you are not at fault you will loose.

That is why I prefer the trails for the majority of my riding, being a big fish in a small pond is how I prefer things. chuckle.gif

I wore the goofy ankle bracelet today just because.

I put that on my frame just in case I happened upon another forum member. Maybe like a secret gang handshake.

Huh? Wear them proudly :p. Especially the helmet vent and fingerless glove ones!

Hell yeah that’s what I was thinking. I have developed the darkest finger tips recently…just weird.

I guess I must have missed the obligatory junior member hazing. crazy.gif

I forgot just about everything I wanted to bring. Next time I’ll grab my camera. It was fun to roast a bit among good company,

A big thanks to Mark and Tim and everyone else for for making for a very fun happy hour.

Thanks for the great thread Pete, I had many questions that where addressed.

I’m not at lycra level yet.
I have had great luck so far with a clean pair of Cannondale. These have worked great on 4 hour rides.

    Welcome,

Good Luck on that ride sounds like it could be pretty rough. Does that route save you time vs. taking a car? Or at least worth the ride fitness wise?
    What branch are you in?

I too am new to cycling and am planning on taking one of these classes to help tune my skills. http://www.waba.org/education/calendar.php

Good Luck, stay safe out there.
