This teacher of the Rockville Colored School fought with Thurgood Marshall for equal pay for black educators in 1936. He was a civil rights advocate when he volunteered to be the NAACP’s plaintiff against Montgomery County.

He was one of the Founding Fathers of the US who signed the Declaration of Independence. My elementary school was named after him as well as a major street in Queens.
