How in the heck do you get from Bowie to SW DC? You should write a post explaining your route — others might be interested.
My ride from Bowie, MD to S.W., DC is not the nicest route but I think is the most direct.
I take rt 450 (Annapolis Rd) split into rt 704 (Martin Luther King Blvd), right onto Sheriff Rd that becomes Minnesota Ave, right on Benning Rd. and then Oklahoma Ave to East Capitol and then onto Independence Ave. Traffic is not bad not many cars and I ride on the road the whole way.
I want to ride fast cause I fear for my life from getting shot, bikejacked, robbed, or hit be cars.SONEPHETH

15 with lights and traffic. But I’ll speed up next time if I see anyone on a mountain bike with a child seat who is wearing flip flops.
You got me, I don’t have the child seat in the back of my bike anymore but I do have a black plastic carton on the front of my bike now and still wearing flip flops.

ParticipantIf they ever send back my Magicshine battery from the recall I may buy the Magicshine taillight with Y-connector they are selling now. They’ve had the battery for two months though, I’m not expecting it back anytime soon. I still love that light though, especially now that it’s less likely to catch my house on fire.
My Magicshine battery die when I rode in the rain but I just use the battery from my Traxxas radio control car. Its waterproof, I had to solder the Traxxas connector on the wire coming from the light.

ParticipantLast time I rode in the rain, it kill my Magic Shine battery. I only wish I had glasses to keep the rain out of my eyes.

ParticipantThanks for making me feel good about my average speed. DC traffic definitely slow me down.

ParticipantIn my opinion, bike with suspension and comfortable riding position is the best for commuting. I ride full suspension mountain bike with road tire and when the road open up I lean over and put my elbow on the handle bar and hold onto my front basket. I commute with my road bike a couple of time but too harsh of a ride and I don’t like riding in the drop, I stay on the hood or on the aerobar.
I much prefer my mountain bike riding position and shock absorbing.

ParticipantI recommend Magic Shine for light, bright and cheap and it works great.
