ParticipantI ride the Pike from the Pentagon to the Drafthouse on a somewhat regular basis & don’t find it too bad. I have found that as long as I take the lane, cars are pretty good through there. Also, consider taking Southgate Rd to cut out the hill near the Air Force Memorial.

ParticipantStopped by ChopHouse on my way home last night. Clearly, I don’t follow sports, or I would have realized they would be full of Capitals fans! Learned they were the oldest brewery in the district & met the bartender who’s been with them since day 1. Tried the IPA – it was an IPA.

1/11 at Casanel vineyards with SMH9600. I had a class of their 2015 Carmenere. Casanel claims to be the only vineyard on the East Coast that grows this grape so I was eager to try it. It was fruity with a tannic backbone which I expect from this grape. The fruit was bright red fruit, which you’d expect from a young wine. Has the classic VA green pepper in the finish. Not too much acidity so drink it now.

I had chard – I think. Somehow Reji remembers these way better than me! (I didn’t drink more, I swear!)

I forgot to include my cocktail – I cannot – for the life of me – remember what it’s called, but it’s gin!

ParticipantCatching up on my beernuering posts! Had a pre-snow day drink a New District Brewery & visited Crooked Run Brewery on the #trifecta tour (along with Casanel Vineyard & Cotoctin Creek Distillery). This doesn’t get old [emoji4]

ParticipantBeernuering Saturday-
Team 8! I’m planning a Beernuering trip Saturday, Jan 26. We’ll be hitting 3 breweries: Settle Down Brewery, Mad Fox Brewing Co, & Audacious Aleworks in Falls Church. I’m still finalizing the route – details will be forthcoming. (There is also a Distillery in Falls Church you can add on if you’re Spiritnuering as well). Leaving from Best Buns in Shirlington at 10am. Hope you all can make it!

Hi everybody! Looks like I’m off the waitlist and on Team 8! Super excited. This is my first year. I found out about it from a “women who bicycle” Facebook group a couple months ago. I’ve been a weakling since it snowed and been taking the metro after I had to basically walk to work on Tuesday. I’m on a hybrid and am super accident prone so not messing around on ice. But hopefully I’ll be back on the MVT next week. Question about Strava (once I’m added to the “club” on the app) – do you have to manually start tracking your rides or does it automatically log it? I’ve only used Ride Report.
Welcome to Team Eight is Great! We’re excited to have you! As Jonathan says, by using the Strava app on your phone, it’ll automatically upload your rides to Freezing Saddles & our team.

ParticipantThird Thursday HH!
Tomorrow is the 3rd Thursday HH at Bar Rubioux (I had the location wrong in my original post). I’m still recovering from a cold, so I won’t be able to make it, but hope you all are able to get out to represent Team 8 Is Great! Kevin mentioned doing a ride ahead (yeah if you’re able!). This is a great place to organize! Careful – snow showers are possible during the evening commute (up to a couple inches are possible) & could make all the ice slick. I’ll be back up & running in a few days & will work to organize a team social! Cheers!

ParticipantAll you snow-shoveling trail clearers are awesome! (How many car-drovers would shovel the streets so they -or even strangers- could get to work the next day?) Huge props, kudos, thanks, & [emoji112][emoji112][emoji112][emoji112] & sorry I wasn’t able to join you!

1/11 at Catoctin Creek with SMH9600. (By the way, she insisted we do the alcohol-euring trifecta!) I had the standard flight with 2 bourbons and a gin. I forgot to take a pic of the bottles so I don’t recall what the bourbons were, but remember that I liked it more after I added a little water to open it up.

ParticipantHello Team 8 Is Great!
It was great meeting (most of) you at the Happy Hour! Looks like we have a Gr8 team!!! [emoji4] So for those who weren’t able to make the HH, let’s start with a round of introductions. I’ll start –
I’m Samantha – your Captain this year. Last year was my first FS, and although I was too busy to really enjoy much of the social side of the competition, I met a lot of great bikey-people! I’m looking forward to doing some great beernuering/winuering/spiritnuering, & all the great festivities! Want to plan a team social? – Let’s do it!
