YOU: The couple riding your bikes and pumping away to quickly blow through your red light on Maryland Ave across 3rd street heading towards the Museum of the American Indian.

ME: The guy driving down 3rd in his car (today I was a driver) watching the car in front of me slam on his brakes so he could avoid hitting not only the two of you, but the young child belted into the child seat on the back of the woman’s bike.

Ya know…though I usually avoid going through red lights unless I know I can and the road is completely clear in both directions, I sometimes make stupid decisions when it comes to riding my bike…but you know when I don’t do it? When I used to have my son strapped into the iBert seat on my bike. (He has since outgrown it) Both for common-sense safety, and to show him safe riding….

Besides, where were you two going in such a rush at 6:30am, when there was just two cars on 3rd Street (me, and the guy who almost wiped you out) that you couldn’t wait the 10 seconds for us to pass for you to cross?

When do we get our pylons back?

They’re still sitting at the Capitol end of PA ave in a big ole pile, so it’s not like it would be a long trip to retrieve/re-install.

RCannon100-For years and years and years, that phrase in that horse’s voice has been the go-to means of saying we disagree with something for my best friend and I…..I was so happy to see it utilized here…

This reminds me of a question that I had wanted to ask a few months ago…are the laws the same on the CCT from Georgetown to Bethesda? What are the “hours” of this section of trail? I think the gate leading to the Air Right Building tunnel gets locked at 10pm (Maybe 9?) so one would assume that the hours follow that logic, but who knows since part of the trail is in DC and part in MD….I have to say, I have ridden as late as 10pm on the trail, and still encountered a few people.

    Anyone know the actual hours/law?

I commute about 22 miles round trip…. the 11 in the morning takes about 45 minutes (much of it is level or downhill) and the trip home can take up to an hour (uphill in sections) I generally feel as though I’m a slower rider, as I get passed pretty frequently, but that’s what I look at for a commute. This tends to stay about the same, whether I take a blend of CCT and onstreet routes, or just do the onstreet route minus the use of the CCT.

I bike from Bethesda to the National Mall…

I have a question about the L Street Cycletracks. I have tried to do some research, but haven’t come up with anything yet…what is the etiquette/what is the safest way when using these cycletracks to make a right hand turn at an intersection that is currently moving forward.

For example…I am riding Eastbound in the L Street Cycletracks, but want to make a right on to the 15th street bike lanes when I get there. What should I do when I reach 15th, and L street still has the green light moving forward with heavy morning traffic. I don’t want to just stop right in the cycletracks to wait for the light to change in case someone is behind me, and cutting left onto the sidewalk seems dangerous if a car has moved into the left turn lane. Thoughts? What has been your experience and your solutions? I actually like having this route, and I feel like the more people that use it, the more cars will get used to us.

Yes – It’s down at the bottom of the hill, just in front of the police station. I haven’t seen it full, but I’ve mostly gone on weekday mornings.

There are also some racks at the top of the Zoo on the Connecticut Avenue side, just as you walk past the main gate…I have also never seen this one full.

The last few years I averaged about 300 miles a year….this year my goal was 1000 (which I will hit with my next ride this week)
Seeing as how, in my work commute alone I have the potential just over 3700 miles, I don’t think 3000 miles is a bad goal…I more than tripled my typical riding this past year, even though I was down for the count with a knee injury the first few months, and I spent a month driving because of a change in job sites…so yeah….. 3000 in 2013. :)

    I second the dontgethit.com site…

I just received this vest: http://www.dontgethit.com/360deprve.html in lime, which was on sale (Still is as of this posting) Great fit, solid build….

Also, I don’t remember who mentioned this place on another thread that’s floating around here, but I just got myself some tape from this place http://shop.reflectivestore.com/ it’s a bit on the pricey side, but this is industrial grade stuff right here and you get a ton of tape…super bright, and truly tough to peel off once applied…It’s made for marine/industrial applications, but I love having it on my bike/bag. I saved myself a but of money and went with the 1/2″ roll…not cheap, but worth every penny in my opinion…

In addition to the items being solid from both stores, I found shipping to be fast, the websites easy to navigate, and service to be top notch. No problems.

The last time we were there a few weeks ago, the Trail was about to open…want to go check it out as soon as possible…my son kept asking about it…we were spoiled up until a couple years ago because we actually lived directly across from the Zoo on CT ave…talk about living at the Zoo. We were there constantly…
