Yes, it is still on. NPS will not be doing any trash cleanup along the riverbanks, where much of the trash is accumulating. Good news is, we can place our trash/recycling for collection and we may have operational toilets for Saturday! Yay! Also, given the weather forecast, we may need to call it early depending on how cold we get. But, I’ll be handing out extra recycling bags, trash bags, and gloves for you to take with you if you want to continue beautification a little closer to home.

The second Calvinball has been spotted at BAFS happy hour. Go up to the registration table and tell the bee, “Team 17 is the bees knees!” And the Calvinball is yours!6efe0dcd57d532519f608ae139a91a69.jpg

Gosh, I must have passed you. I think I looked under most of the power poles before 29 and slowed down for a lot along 4 mile run south of Columbia Pike (By then I was probably getting hypothermia because Shreve isn’t even that far south, right?). It was just too cold for me! Surprised at all the cyclists out tonight.

Don’t you have to make a bunch of them now?!

Shreve intersection is right before the big hill where you jog up to Virginia Lane on the WOD. Sounds like you were looking under a lot of poles. Not to worry, not only was the spot less than a mile from my house, but now I have the pleasure of making 3 more? 4 more? Rumor is that a few of them may cross state borders…

Do you like to bike? Do you like wine? Do you feel left out by the exclusiveness of #BAFS2019beerneuring? If so, this side bet is for you. The rules are simple:

    1. Ride your bike to any winery [emoji485] for at least a Sleaze ride.

    2. Drink wine [emoji485] at that location.

    3. Take a picture of the wine [emoji485]

    4. Makes notes on said wine [emoji485]

    5. Post on this thread the picture of the wine [emoji485], the location, and your tasting notes. It can be anything, like “the wine was red and I liked it” or something sophisticated like @Reji would say that we wouldn’t be able to comprehend. Extra points to those who use the above hashtag and name/number their winery rides, otherwise we might be too winery-eyed to credit your entry.

    6. Whomever posts entries from the most number of wineries by the end of Freezing Saddles wins!

    7. The winner will receive a bike ride to a winery of our choice that reflects the nature of the competition, or a bottle of wine if injured and unable to ride.

    A few further clarifications:

    1. BE SAFE! No riding while under the influence. If you rode your bike to the winery but find that you need to get a ride or take Uber/Metro home, the entry still counts.

    2. You can go to more than one winery on a ride, but see previous rule.

    3. The wine must be made at that location where consumed.

    4. Some wineries have more than one location. A trip to each location counts.

    5. Keep in mind that this competition is to visit the most number of wineries. Once you visit a winery and consume their wine, then you cannot post another entry for that winery, even if you go back later and try a different wine [emoji485].

    6. It is not required, but try to go on at least one winery tour. Fun, educational and you usually get to sample wine [emoji485].

    7. In case of a tie, the winner will be the cyclist who visits the most wineries while cycling the LEAST amount of miles.

    8. These rules are arbitrary and subject to change on the whim of the sponsors.

This pointless prize is jointly sponsored by @BoomerCycles and @CBGanimal but we may consult with @Reji in case of any need for interpretations of above rules.

New Event: Anacostia River Trail Trash Clean-up Ride
    7eb49fb1f81092b824f8c6d357c9c272.jpg

So as I was riding home to Murrland this morning, I observed the mountains of trash along the East Bank Trail along the Anacostia. This has been one of the many negative fall-outs from the government shut-down. Let’s help out NPS and keep this beautiful park safe and clean for neighbors, pedestrians, and cyclists!

    When: Saturday, January 12th
Where: meet at Velo Cafe in DC 730 Maine Ave SW at 9am to ride up to the Anacostia rec center. I’ll be heading in from Falls Church, so if you are coming from VA, I plan to roll from Best Buns in Shirlington at 8:15
What to Bring: sturdy gloves, bike lock, can-do attitude, nitrile gloves, large trash bags, large recycling bags (I will bring some too).
When: see above but until noon or whenever we get tired. Optional beers & lunch after at BlueJacket.
Why: Because the trash along the River is gross and sad
Who: You! Please RSVP to this thread if you would like to come

In an effort to supplement their income, a merry band of federal cyclists signed up with Uber to provide roadie pedi-cab rides. Unfortunately, they didn’t realize that Uber XL didn’t stand for “Xtra Lycra”.
