ParticipantYou’re a genius. I don’t recall the routing but I do recall being pleasantly surprised when I saw that the new trail went down to the river and around the townhouses at Ford’s Landing (where there was an old, decrepit Ford factory).
I told the attorney that Royal Street used to go under the bridge to South Street and this is clearly shown on the map.

ParticipantThis is a total no brainer. There are issues with deliveries and with the people who live and park in condos across from the Torpedo Factory but they’ve been solved in other cities many times.
I rode through the intersection twice today. Cars just don’t work there. At all.
They should also study making the Union and other streets one-way. Put a protected cycle track down the street and diagonal parking on the opposite side.
Maybe that would keep the residents from parking perpendicular to the curb and blocking the southbound bike lane.

ParticipantI have this white pine in my yard and it’s oozing sap. Should I chop it down or go on a bike ride?

ParticipantIf the cyclist had been a cop and the driver a private citizen, would Roessler have drawn the same conclusion?

ParticipantA Fairfax County police ran over and killed a pedestrian at the opposite side of this intersection less than 10 years ago.

ParticipantI like the route changes as well. With a stiff headwind coming up the Anacostia, I rode alone to and from the 11th Street Bridge. It seems like most riders opted to cross the East Capitol Street Bridge instead, shaving off 2 or 3 miles. Or maybe I was the 55-mile lanterne rouge.
Pie portions seemed bigger this year. Yay pie. I missed out on the mead. Boo.
Location of the pit stop in the park in Greenbelt was moved closer to the parking area, away from the bees that stung me the last couple of years.
The post ride party is always fun and this year was not exception.
Thanks to all the volunteers, pit stoppers, and WABA staff.

ParticipantSorry to hear this. Hope you’re okay.

ParticipantYou may have noticed a woman taking pictures at Alaska Avenue. She’s Patti Heck and she posted them on her Flickr page. If you’ve done the ride in prior years and don’t mind scrolling down a long ways, you can check those out as well.

ParticipantI don’t use parrafin but I have been using wax lube (Ice Dry, White Lightning) for years. Mostly I use it because it is much cleaner. I have a recumbent with a long chain that tags my calf. And a Bike Friday that all but requires handling the chain when unfolding.
I get more than 4,000 miles out of my chains but three of them are on bikes with 8- or 9- speed cassettes. (I change the cassette when I change the chain.)
Could it be that 11 speed chains just don’t last as long as 8- or 9-speed chains?

ParticipantUse the upper (Kings Hwy) exit. Left on Kings. Left on Ford which becomes Rixey. Left on Fairhaven. Cross US 1 at a light. Fairhaven becomes Quander. Quander leads to FHR.

ParticipantI had one flat last year. One. On the bike without Schwalbe Marathons or Marathon Pluses. That’s in nearly 10,000 miles.
There is a down side: I am now really bad at changing a flat.
