ParticipantToo true. I have watched them ignore this for nearly 3 years. I see this ten times per week, at least. I’ve nearly been hit half a dozen times despite the fact that I am cautious as is humanly possible.

ParticipantThis morning I came up from the MVT and turned left on the sidewalk on North Lynn. I had to wait for a red light runner to take a right turn on red without stopping. Then I crossed 19th Street and the same thing happened.
Would it hurt to have a little enforcement on Lynn Street once in a while?

ParticipantYou could also check out Adventure Cycling’s website. I think they have free Ride Companions “classified ads” on their website. Same goes for Crazyguyonabike.com’

ParticipantBIMD I had a Raleigh three speed that worked great until a pedal snapped off at 20 miles per hour and I had to eat the gravel at the side of the road. Helmets? Shmelmets!
BIMD I had a ’78 Raleigh Grand Prix with Flickstand and downtube mounted Sun Tour click shifters. (They were friction shifters with a little metal ratchet inside.) It saw me through six years in New England, and several Providence to Boston to Providence rides. (Danger, Will Robinson!)
BIMD, there were very few water fountains in the parks around DC. I went for a 60+ mile bike ride on a 100+ degree day with no water bottles (in New England it rarely got hot enough to need water bottles.) I got heat exhaustion.
BIMD Mount Vernon Trail ended with a nasty switch back instead of that long steady climb. Lots of crashes there.
BIMD you rode a road bike with drop bars and suffered, dammit!

ParticipantWe may soon see the day that pedestrians and cyclists who use this intersection take matters into their own hands.

ParticipantDid he show you his badge? If not, you don’t really know if he was a LEO. Regardless, he sounds like a asshat.

ParticipantThanks for setting this up. I had a great time as usual. The ride home in the twilight (and, eventually darkness) was a treat too.

ParticipantShh. That’s where I park when I come to DC. Don’ tell anybody about this. Ok?
Rootchopper
ParticipantI’ll be there.

ParticipantFun fact: the MUP along the Charles River in Boston was named after Dr. Paul Dudley White, a well known cardiologist who was Ike’s doctor. http://www.eot.state.ma.us/default.asp?pgid=../common/downloads/bikemaps/dudley&sid=about

ParticipantThose bloody CaBis were all over the place. It made it really hard to drive to the cherry blossoms. DC should do something!

ParticipantBingo.
My guess is this will be settled out of court because the driver and his employer don’t want this before a jury.

ParticipantWhen my wife was run over by an SUV in broad daylight, police cited the driver with the same offense. My sense is this tells the insurance company that he obviously did something wrong even if the police officer didn’t see the event in question.

ParticipantIt’s definitely not from a lawn mower. I saw it this morning at the intersection of the 14th St bridge ramp and the MVT. Clearly done intentionally.

ParticipantThanks Bruce. I live 1/2 mile from SHL where my wife was run over by an SUV. I may have already sent a note to my representatives but did so again today. Mt Vernon skews old in terms of demographics. It has the oldest population of any district in Fairfax. Two of my representatives are old and walk with difficulty. They personally must rely on cars to get around. This may affect their perspective. Mount Vernon used to have light traffic but thanks to all the development on US 1 (which they encouraged) and the expansion of Fort Belvoir, this is rapidly changing. A new Mount Vernon is emerging and I hope it doesn’t end up looking like Maple Ave in Vienna on a Saturday.
