ParticipantI do this up until 4th. Instead of P St take a left on I Street. I Street across So Capitol Street (with crossing guards for safety) to First St. SE
Right on First. Continue straight to the ballpark and the Bike Valet.Rootchopper
ParticipantThe route varies a bit from year to year but the essential idea of hitting all 8 wards is unchanged. Last year the descent on Arizona Av was extended to MacArthur making for even more climbing. Also, in recent years a Hains Point loop has been added.

ParticipantSorry I missed this. Had dinner with wife and daughter. Latter is off to Sydney today. What was dinner? Outback takeout.

ParticipantI commute from near MV hospital to Rosslyn, about 14 – 15 miles each way depending on my route. I recommend (1) getting lots of sleep, (2) eating a decent sized lunch, (3) doing a car or bus portage from time to time. When I was time pressed by day care, I would drive to the Tulane Drive exit on the GW Parkway and park on the side street. There are several others who do this so you will not be alone. This took 3 miles off my commute.
Also, how fast are you riding? If you’re trying to do a time trial every day you might want to back off a bit. I used to try to ride 16 miles per hour. Now I am happy with 12. Most days I don’t even go that fast. At least try dialing it back for one of your two daily legs.

ParticipantThere is no such thing as a free lunch… or parkway. Politicians get elected by offering free lunches to voters. If we just keep taxes low, miraculous things will happen. (I don’t think they meant that bridges will fall down.) Unfortunately the real world is governed by things like physics and math and such. There really aren’t very many alternatives to raising the damned gas tax and indexing it to inflation. Then require that these funds go into a fund for infrastructure repair and maintenance not military spending or entitlements. Raise income taxes on high income people. To do these things will require bipartisan leadership which is about as rare as a free lunch these days.

We used Get Out and Play for our shuttle to PGH from DC. They were excellent.

ParticipantI’m a no. Family conflict.
Is there some reason why we can’t also do the usual third Thursday anyway?

ParticipantI agree you encountered the DC species known as “I AM THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON ON THE PLANET”. There are a lot of them here and they probably have no idea how inadequate they are. Or how utterly obnoxious.
BTW I know you meant no offense but some of my best cycling friends are bipolar. None of them would ever act like this.

ParticipantMy co-worker’s remark was tongue in cheek. I will pass along your explanation though. Thanks.

ParticipantI didn’t die. https://rootchopper.wordpress.com/2015/04/29/and-i-didnt-even-die/
I rode again today without a helmet. I’m still here.
My daughter was learning to ride and fell off her bike. She careened toward a storm drain. The helmet kept her head from going into the drain. At the speed she was going she might have gotten a boo boo. I crashed dozens of times when I was a kid. I am perfectly okay today. Really. I’m just a few spokes shy of a wheel.

ParticipantGiven the fact that the water level is now up to the underside of the boardwalk just north of Slaters, I’d say a new, higher trail might be in order. When they build it, maybe they could make it out of a surface that doesn’t eat bicyclists in the winter. Or maybe just use the money to plow and treat the trail. What a concept!
