ParticipantI saw this video on CNN’s Dr Gupta reports. Here’s an another deadly accident between cyclist and truck. I can’t believe NYPD gave more tickets to cyclists than truck drivers.
I’m also seeing many distracted dump truck drivers on their phone in DC.

ParticipantWow, nice. I’m going to skip the Custis trail and ride via Ballston to make this extra stop.

Rick, I will bring an extra lock for you.

Liz, thank you so much. Since my heavy bike is cheap and doesn’t have the quick release levers for wheels, it doesn’t require a fancy lock. We can lock only the frame to your bike.
Now, it got no excuse not to show up.

ParticipantSince Ann has been working to so hard to organize this event, I can’t miss it. I will cancel all my meetings and appointments tomorrow for it.
I still haven’t own a lock yet. Hopefully, a bike thief doesn’t read this forum to get the heads up.

ParticipantPlease don’t try drinking and biking because I already tried it when I was younger. I felt more than 12 times on a 4 miles ride. I went down on every turn.

ParticipantHey Greenbelt,
You ran a couple red lights and stop signs. You need to reedit your video.

ParticipantCongestion traffics on I-66 or gridlocks in DC.
I know I’m selfish sometimes but I feel better when I travel faster than the cars.

ParticipantThis is an excellence subject thread. I have seen many cyclists make this mistake in DC streets everyday by stopping or riding next to the truck in the bike lane. The trucks look slow but deadly. They don’t feel it when it hits a bike. I try to stay away from them much I can.

I smell a hit new program on Bike TV. If there were a Bike TV.
Hey, that is a great idea. A reality show about bike commuters with all the dramas.

Can you set it to overwrite when full? I like the idea of constant recording but only “messing” with it when something bizarre and/or beautiful happens.
Be honest, I don’t know much about it because it’s in the box. I really want the loop recording like a CCTV. After something happens, I can stop and retrieve the video. With 32 GB of SD cards, I should have 8 hour HD video.

ParticipantI bought a ContourROAM Hands-free HD last Christmas for $85 and it’s in the box. I need to mount it on my bike so I won’t miss any action. To bad, it has wide angle lens and won’t able to read the tag.

ParticipantIt was a Capital Bikeshare bike rider. It’s bright red. How can the driver not seeing it?
RESTONTODC
ParticipantThe WUSA9 Channel just chooses to show only the selective view for cyclists in DC so they can have a story to report. It’s not a general view of commuting cyclists. That is why I stop watching news and spending more time on the bikes or this forum.
There are so many distract drivers on the cell phones and police are not doing anything. Why don’t they do a story on it?

ParticipantThat is the extract location. I’m the water is coming down the hill and on to Lee highway and brings some slick stuff with it. The rear wheel just slide off ,no wobbling, no way to recovery.

The S of Eternal Peril is an easy place to crash… even for people who have ridden it for years. Someone (my guess is that it might be the people doing tree work there a few weeks back) had an equipment failure and oil was spilled. At first they spread wood chips to cover the oil. The wood chips were later replaced by sand. Someone should have put oil-dry down on it day 1 and the problem would have been solved. As it was, oily sand kind of got tracked up and down the path and it was a little more slippery for a while.
The oil spill was actually at the bottom, when all the turning is done. It hasn’t really been more slippery than the rest of the trail for a few days, but I still treat it gingerly.
Dirt, your theory makes most sense. For weeks, I saw wood chips and sand later. I saw wet grey color mud covering it on the day I got wiped out. I was trying to figure out how it got there. My original guess was mud slide from the hills but it didn’t have the same color. There was tree work on that day as well. If I follow the water flow, it came down the hill to my wipe out area.
