ParticipantIt looks like the contractor put down another asphalt coat this morning. It’s smother and they fixed the famous sink area after the downhill.
They are using the broken white color marking instead of the standard solid yellow.

Mark, thank you for clarifying the VA laws. I agree that most cops don’t know much about the laws relating to cyclists. Now, I feel it’s really a jungle out there.
If there is no code for the stop signs facing the WOD,so the cops can’t really enforce it, can they? I heard that cops gave tickets to some cyclist for not stopping.

§ 46.2-904
A person riding a bicycle, electric personal assistive mobility device, motorized skateboard or scooter, motor-driven cycle, or an electric power-assisted bicycle on a sidewalk, shared-use path, or across a roadway on a crosswalk, shall have all the rights and duties of a pedestrian under the same circumstances.americancyclo, I didn’t see the above code of Virginia before. It’s very interesting. We need a lawyer to interpret the law.
RESTONTODC
ParticipantYES. According to a city of Falls Church police officer, the cyclists must stop and yield for the cars because we (cyclists) have the stop sign and cars don’t have the stop sign. There are the signs in the middle of the street said “Yield for pedestrian”, not for cyclists. The Virginia law also says yield for pedestrian in crosswalk, it doesn’t say anything about the cyclists.
About three weeks ago, I stopped at the stop sign on WOD at N West St in Falls Church. A lady saw me and stopped but guy in rear slam into her hard and pushes her car through the crosswalk. It looks like he didn’t even apply his brake.
He got out and yelled at her “why did you stop?” She was scared and shocked. I got my bike and yelled back to him and tell him to get back in his car. I called the police. When the police arrived, he asked why she stopped. It was her fault that she stopped. He told her that the cyclist has stop sign not her. Luckily, there was a jogger in the crosswalk on the opposite street. I provided my information as a witness and move on. Hopefully, she doesn’t have to be responsible for the accident. I wish know the outcome of it.
Now, I learned that the drivers yield for us are taking a risk. They could be responsible for an accident.

ParticipantCool.
I was too late. I went by this area around 7:30 and didn’t see them.

ParticipantThere is one Reckless driving. Can you get a Reckless driving for riding bike? Should it be Reckless riding?

ParticipantAnn, it’s good that you’re ok.
A RHG group shuttle almost ran over my front wheel yesterday afternoon. It was making right turn fast from middle lane. If I didn’t stop, my front wheel would be under the shuttle’s rear wheel. It looks like the passengers were late for a fly. They should change their name to Super Shuttle 2.

ParticipantAccording the patch instruction from below site, you need to wait 1 hour for glue dries before installing it back in the tire. You also need baby power. It’s much easier to install a new tube and go.

ParticipantSince the tube costs only $5, I replace it instead of repairing it.
Spoke sells three for $15 and I always get $5 off coupon from them.

ParticipantI also rode with the MJ-808 with the newer MJ-828 LCD battery pack on handle bar during the last winter. I haven’t seen any recall for the MJ-828 LCD battery pack.
It’s a bright light. I don’t need a brighter light unless I want to blind the recumbent friends or riding at 3 AM like CCrew. I’m very happy with it since I paid only $80. There is no support for it. With the price, I will get a new one every two years.
My partner rides the Dinotte 800 light and it’s brighter than mine but he rarely uses the high beam.

(Also? Christ there are some idiots on bikes. If you don’t have enough sense/capacity to notice the ACPD car/officer standing *right there* and stop/slow down? Then you certainly weren’t going to see an approaching car.)
I’m totally agreed. The ACPD officer wants to show his presence by parking his mark car the light. If you can’t see him, you should deserve a ticket.

ParticipantAlright, I’m making up a list of threats. Here are some of them.
Water bottle from high rise
Sink hole on Custis trail
Passing without calling
Cyclist drafting from behind (this doesn’t bother me unless it’s dark.

ParticipantNow, Do I have to look up while riding my bike? I really need more than 2 eyes.
Life is tough sometimes.
RESTONTODC
ParticipantI haven’t heard anyone call out PASSING while riding in DC streets. Riding bike in DC is just like you’re in a war zone. I always scan for threats.
For my own safety, I would check my rear even I’m move left or right in my own lanes. I see too many cars doing lane splitting or squeezing by. You won’t hear anything when a Toyota Prius pass you.
BTW, I didn’t ride on the 14th NW this morning.

ParticipantTDB,
I saw the size of Cadillac RLE on CL is 58 and vintage Atala Italian is 53. Do you know your bike size If you don’t, I would recommend you visit the local bike shop to figure it out. You don’t have to buy it from them. You will learn a lot by visiting many bike shops. Buying from CL requires some knowledge about bike.
