Hey Vicegrip! If it’s not too late, you may want to check Andrew S. Strava rides on 1/1. While his longest ride was 101.3, he has 2 other rides which give him a total of 105.8 for 1/1, more miles than I rode that day. Also, I’m a returning FS participant and I thought that this award was designated for newbs … is this where we kick off a series of rule debates? :p Anyway, if you’re forging my name on the GN, use my full name Robyne McRey.

I got back to MP zero shortly after 6PM, with 92 miles under my belt. I didn’t go for the extra miles further out, because I wanted to get done with the trail by dark. That left me with an extra 8 miles to ride. At that point I wanted low stress, non hilly, familiar miles. So I basically rode around Shirlington, Fairlington and Park Center. It felt like doing an extended FS sleeze ride, but I finished, and yes did 100 miles in one day, which I deem to be a century.

    Way to go!!!

Judd and I are planning to meet at the Whole Foods in Pentagon City at 8:00 a.m., so that we can get breakfast at the ride start and be rolling by 9:15 or so. reji, if the Whole Foods isn’t too far out of your way (I know you’ve been to at least one WTFCC), I’d be happy to ride through DC with you. Same goes for anyone else who wants to come along.

komorebi, I’d love to join you and Judd! Thanks, and I’ll see you tomorrow @8:00.

I’ll be riding in from Fairfax to the ride and am looking for a good way through DC. I don’t ride much in DC and am hoping someone can advise me if there’s a better route or warn me if my current route is suicidal:

I can come in via any of the Potomac crossings if that’s a better choice. Thanks for your advice and I hope to see some familiar faces tomorrow!

By way of a bump, I’ll say thanks, that was fun. I haven’t been on a lot of those older trails since i used to occasionally commute from Arlington to Lanham via Tacoma Park more than 8 years ago. The new trail portions look great, and I really want to find a way to get back out there sometime.

I really have no idea how you find time to do all these, but I imagine it involves cloning yourself.

I completely agree! Just this morning, I was just talking with a colleague who was considering exploring those trails this weekend. I sent him the link to your video and it was most appreciated. I’m doing the Cider Ride this weekend, but will look to explore more of MD later this month. Thanks again!

Time to clean out the garage!

    Tires:
Continental SportContact (1) 700×28 wire bead. Probably ~1000 miles on it. (Gone)
Vittoria Randonneur (2) 700×28 wire bead. Mostly new, prob ~200 miles on them. (Gone)
Ritchey Megabite (1) 26×2.1 wire bead. Don’t know how many miles, but it’s got a good bit of tread left. (Gone)
Tioga Extreme EX (1) 26×2.1 wire bead. Center knobs show most wear (I think my friend road only on paved trails) but still a decent amount left. (Still avail)
Tioga Factory XC (1) 26×1.95 wire bead. Same as the other Tioga but a bit more worn. Probably not too far from being tossed out. (Still avail)

    Tubes:
Kenda Pyramid 26×1.5-1.95 Presta (new) (Gone)
Kenda Pyramid 26×1.5-1.95 Schrader (Still avail)
Cheng Shin 26×1.9-2.125 Schrader (Still avail)
    Bontrager 26×1.75-2.35 (2) Presta (Gone)

I commute daily between Fairfax (close to GMU) and Ballston so if you’re interested in any of these, we may be able to arrange a drop off.

I’ll take the Presta tubes and the Ritchey tire if you can’t find any takers.

Funnily enough I currently run that Tioga combo on my beater bike (stock from GT Avalanche from 2005 or so), but the rear is getting worn down a lot.

I can probably meet in Falls Church <=> Ballston area sometime this week.

Great! Just sent you a PM.

I plan to attend and expect to get there close to 5:00. It’ll be my first 3rd Thursday HH and know only a few of you from BAFS so if you see someone who’s aimlessly looking for a group, it’s probably me.

I had the same trouble a couple of years ago when I tried, unsuccessfully, to install a new Conti Gatorskin Hardshell. Tried the hair dryer and the soap on the bead tricks, too. After many hours, expletives shouted and blisters on my hands, I gave up and took it into my LBS. Of course, he popped it on the rim in a matter of seconds, though not without affirming that Contis are notoriously hard to install.

I was nervous about getting a flat so after I rode on it about 500 miles, I decided to uninstall/reinstall it to see how much it had stretched. Turns out it hadn’t stretched enough for me to be comfortable changing it on the side of the road so I went back to my Vittorias, another beaded tire. I can usually change those in under 5 minutes. So as much as I loved the ride of the Conti’s, I just get too many flats to feel comfortable riding on tires that I worry about changing, especially on the side of the road.

I live in Kings Park West which is close to the Burke VRE and commute every day into Arlington. This is the route I typically take. https://www.strava.com/activities/578843391 From my exit off the Custis, it’s an easy ride into Rosslyn and the MVT at TR island. Alternatively, you could skip the Custis and take the WOD/4MR to intersect the MVT near the airport.

I usually leave my house ~6:00am and I’m happy to caravan. PM me if you’re interested.

Went there for the Ice Breaker, a DIPA. Also tasted the Tmavy, a dark lager. Liked the Ice Breaker enough to bring some back. The citrus punches you in the face but then a smooth finish leaves you wanting more. By the way, if you buy a 4pack to bring back, do a better job than I did in packing it for the return home. 3 made it; RIP the 4th. The Tmavy was solid and balanced with sweet malt flavors dancing with the lingering bitter finish.

    Where are the rest?

This one is in Fairfax City in Thaiss Park off of Pickett Road. I took this picture last Tuesday. The Fairfax Cross County trail runs right by it and the City did an amazing job not blocking the trail.

Had a set of 6 to taste:

Forbidden Jacket a Kolsch. Light lime notes. Crisp simple finish.
Anacostia Delta, a Farmhouse Ale. Mmmm, I taste spring!!!
Fields of Friendly Strife, another Farmhouse Ale. Whoa! Tart, funky and earthy. I just wanted to sit by the fire after dinner and sip this one slowly.
The Boxer, an IPA. Orange and pine. Pleasant hops with a medium finish.
Rheinhard De Vos, a sour ale. Cherry infused, not too tart. Sour ales aren’t my thing.
Figure 8, a Scotch Ale. Huge fig nose. Big fig flavor, but not overly sweet which I find in too many scotch ales.
