Another thought- we could all go Hello Kitty themed. Fun and good remembrance for a valued friend.
I love this suggestion! #WSGFABR

Participant1/30/21 – Skate Park or Skateboard (found in the wild)
I had no ride plan for today but found inspiration in today’s hunt. I went on a Tour de Skateboard park, managing to go to 5 different skateboard parks in 5 different municipalities. I went to West End in Falls Church, Powhattan Springs in Arlington, Schuyler Hamilton Jones in Alexandria, Wakefield Park in Fairfax County and Van Dyke in Fairfax City. The best photo I got was from Powhattan Springs which was hopping when I was there.

I have several ideas in mind when I headed out for my ride. But the late afternoon temps afforded a lovely ride and I got caught up enjoying the scenery instead of searching for today’s photo. But I did remember to get something …. WATER. Wasn’t hard to find – literally or in writing.

Participant1/23 Pie day
I went to Pure Pasty in Vienna to pick up a couple of pasties. A pasty is a savoury meat and/or vegetable pie and they originated from Cornwall England. These pasties are declicious and filling. I usually have a couple in my freezer… they are the perfect meal when you get home later after a looooong ride!

One of my favorite parks because I get to use #SeminaryRdSafe4All to get there!

Participant1/19 – Beetle
While I was tempted to find an image of the Beatles somewhere, I went with the traditional VW bug aka beetle. In our house, we play the Punch Buggy game but only the old style VW bugs count. Funny story… I explained the Punch Buggy game to my kids when they were 3 and 5 years old. Even though they were excited by the possible free pass of punching each other, an uneventful week passed without incident when, out of the blue, my oldest punched me. He had forgotten to call the color of the bug passing by so I was not particularly receptive to the punch and asked (ok, sternly yelled) what that was for. With tears in his eyes he said it was the Punch Buggy game. Feeling a little bad, I did what any good parent would do … I punched him back, smiled and reminded him that he needed to call the color of the bug. 😎

Participant1/16/21 – the word “Brewing”, “Winery”, “Mead”, or “Distillery” on a sign
At one of my favorite local breweries. The Sweet Scoville Sting, a honey jalepeno ale, is super tasty and they’ve done a fantastic job balancing the heat and sweet. If you get the opportunity to get the double version of it, do it! Definitely one of my favorites!

Participant1/15 bagels
I was excited for this one because I’ve been wanting to try Bagel Uprising in Alexandria. Today’s work schedule allowed me to indulge in a longer morning ride to grab a bagel before work so I headed on down. What bagel shop doesn’t open until 8? Oh well, I will have to try again on a weekend.

Participant1/12 – Bat
I grew up on the original Batman, you know, the nice one with short ears. Years ago, a colleague who was obsessed with Batman told me that the bigger the ears, the meaner Batman is. I couldn’t imagine a mean Batman.
Found this one on a window at Victory Comics in Falls Church.

Participant1/11 Plane
I knew what I wanted to go see as soon as I read today’s photo scavenger hunt. I had read about the Pennies from Heaven plane in Falls Church but had forgotten about in so haven’t seen it even though I’m just a few miles from it. More info on it is here: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/pennies-from-heaven
I also made sure that I rode Amelia, my gravel/commuter bike!

ParticipantThe African American Heritage Memorial in Alexandria where there are several markers in this structure. One is titled: Truths That Rise From The Roots — Remembered and reads:
We bury more than our bodies at rest
Deep within the forgiving soil
We bury as well our
struggles and triumphs
Our dreams, our legends, our revelry, our toil
Here is where we enshrine our wisdom
To be joined with that of our yesteryears
And here is where our tomorrows are planted
As lessons learned against future fears
