I would not risk using those bars.

There may also be some confusion to what is 30%.

The worse part of this whole thing is the insane media coverage and focus of people on wanting to control other people’s actions and interests.

E power bikes have no place in the woods.

I grew up riding around wakefield on a Schwinn stingray with knobbies before there were trails. Kids, potheads and the random cop was all there was back then.

E bikes do belong in the woods, on the same trails open to gas powered motercycles and ATVs. So not Fountainhead nor Wakefield, but yes to the systems near Edinboro Gap.

There is a segment already just for them: https://www.strava.com/segments/12227300

By the way, I might be so critical, or ebikeophobic, because I fear I’ll go down this dark path some day. In 10 years when I am 55 and ebikes are nearly as light as my trail bike today (33 pounds) the temptation may be too great.

As someone primarily focused on MTB riding trending towards Trail riding, I do not see these as being used to go up fire roads. That shows a lack of understand how Trail riders ride. Fire roads are no problem for most riders of my type. The boost would be most useful for those killer short technical grades, like a 100 meter long 12% rocky section. Those are what kill me, peg out my heart rate, and usually stops me when I just run out of power. I can ride up steep fireroads basically for ever.

Now poorly trained down hillers might use this as a shuttle replacement, but I doubt it. Most would rather use a F350 or Tacoma. Trained downhills would not, as a rule those folks are hyper trained, able to climb like Froome. And downhillers are very much weight weenies and won’t use bosters for a long time.

Maybe we also need some vigilante brush trimming as well.

Whoa. Coming from MA I’m only used to looking for the small PI that grows up as little plants along the ground. I never would have known that was PI. Yikes! I’d report it to the Park Service or whoever is responsible for the park.

Anyone know if there are any plans to pave the roads through there. Kinda like biking through a war zone.

The roads? No idea but assume not. The NPS allocates NO money for Fort Dupont, they are the same line item as all the mall things. They use almost all the funds. Plus the bad pavement cuts down on the number of cars cutting through the park.

These rides are still going on. Just a posting warning people about the insane amount of poison ivy out there this year. Since I started riding there in 2011, it has never been this bad. Photo with my hand is a climber right by then entrance from Texas/Ridge on the trail towards Mass.

The second location is something weird. An ivy climber fell off a tree and is blocking the trail right over one of the new annoying bollards. It is a very mature and lush example, full of green berries, shiny leaves and woody stems. Just stay the f away. This is near the entrance off Fort Davis Dr near Mass.

One thing about riding in Rock Creek. When you are in the more Southern parts, ride slow. There are far too many baby biggies, kids on push bikes and so on to exceed 15 mph without being a a jackball.

I have a 10 year old pewter CK hub and a 15 year old pewter headset. I would call them blue tinted grey.

Maybe this section calls for speed bumps, I am serious. Instead of pavement they could use those thick paint stripes versions.

I was headed south on the MVT just past the Gravelly Point parking area. As I rounded a slight bend, which is a blind curve, there were three cyclists headed NB in close single file, well to their right. Unknown to me, someone else was behind me on my left attempting to overtake. There were shouts, a crash of bikes, and I turned around to see bikes and bodies flying.

At least one rider from the three NB riders was on the ground. I didn’t see blood but I’m sure there was some from hitting the asphalt. The person who caused the collision was profusely apologetic while I screamed at him.

Dude, it is a blind curve. Next to the Parkway. Next to a roadway with no separating barrier. On a trail with nowhere to go. On a blind curve. Your behavior caused some injuries, I don’t know how bad, but could have sent all five of us to the hospital. And all because you wanted to pass.

I have video but it doesn’t show the crash. It probably did record my screaming though. :(

Beyond chiding the rider, did you give your information to anyone? You should have to those injured. Maybe if you did not, you should post signs there asking anyone involved to contact you. Any chance you were Strava-ing so you could see who they may have been? The Strava flyby would show them if they were running it as well.

I do, infrequently. It adds a fair number of miles, makes me go through areas with bad traffic and by the sketchy juvenile detention center. Plus they park folks close the gate at 5 PM. I will email you as well.
