I too vote for fully randomized teams. Especially after my inverse sand-bag last year. I was flying and riding long in December and then from mid-Jan until Feb I could barely ride.

Oh, by the way. For the first day of FS2015 I will unfortunately be in Cancun, so I’ll miss the New Year’s Hains Point cold, miserable, pointless circling. I just checked and, yes, the resort has bicycles.
    (Note to self: remember Garmin.)

There is going to be a Jan 01 Haines Point ride? Does anyone know the time? I was about to announce my Jan 01 11 AM Fort Dupont CX/MTB ride. Maybe I can join the Haines Ride going there and/or coming back.

SSFG? I’ll just assume 700c and rim brakes.

Regardless, for < $500 you can get a very good wheelset from many places, any brick and mortar shop, on-line or even a REI.

Without basic ability to react to a physical close quarters assault, you’ll never get it out and aimed in time.

Regardless of the benefits, people need to stop doing it to people they do not know on the bike paths. I know that is a hopeless cause.

No, it wouldn’t, and there’s not really any objective evidence to demonstrate this.

Taking mixed martial arts courses for a year or two will result in you being much safer than any firearm, mace, tazer, etc. Espically if you listen to the first lesson regarding conflict, mugging, etc,…. run.

This thread reaffirmed my need to stop looking at bike forums on-line. Exception will be made for Freezing Saddles.

After complaints of too bright versus not bright enough, I just decided the golden rule is the best. I will do unto others as I want done unto me. So I won’t strobe on trails (I will on city streets as I’m convinced it’s saved me a few times), I’ll keep my beam pointed down at the ground where it should be, and I’ll be illuminated in darkness. None of it will be so bad as to disrupt other’s rides and then I’ll just hope for the same in return (fat chance).

I do about the same thing. My light is a Light & Motion unit so I also point the light away from the on-coming rider.

Well unless I suspect the person coming the other way is a Solaris user, then I turn it to the brightest flash and point it at them.

Maybe there is some sort personality trait that the type of person inclined to organize events likes music and not conversation.

Another horrid example, the MoCo Epic two years ago. The band was freak awful and so over amped for the space. You could not hear the people working the chow line and no way could you talk to anyone while eating. It did discourage me from getting seconds and I took off without lingering.

Maybe that is one reason they do it.

What kid-related events need to start banning instead of beer is crappy DJs.

I have always hated, even as a teenager, the need people have to have music at every event. People go to events to talk to each other, but end up looking for places to hide from over-amped bands and DJ who all think they are the next Tiƫsto.

It was like that at the DCCX, each time you came around you could not hear the announcer talking about the leaders because of the music.

Dont dispute this article ~ just remember that professional bike thieves are not the only people you are securing your bike from. Some people you are securing your bike from include amateur thieves, jerks, teenagers, people who think the bike is theirs… whatever. As the article well states, your goal is to make it difficult enough to mess with your bike that the would-be-whatever moves on to the next bike.

Very correct. And remember there is no way you can make your bike totally immune from being stolen. All you can do is hope to foil the less determined and less skilled thieves.

If this proposed ebiketopia actually happens, the streets will be perfectly safe because of the hoard of ebikers slowing down the cars.

Nothing I’ve ever read on this boards made me smile more. What a wonderful idea, no cars exceeding 25 mph within urban areas.
