My USA Cycling license says I’m a Cat 5 on the Road, Track and in Cyclocross. I can’t race in anything else until I get enough experience doing 10 races!
My mistake. I was fooled by CrossResults.com profile linked to the results for the Bikentic race. http://www.crossresults.com/racer/15127 It is messed up showing you as a Cat 2 racer with 40 plus races. They are mixing up your results with another Tim Kelly, 46 from Boise Idaho. Maybe you should e-mail CrossResults (part of Bike Reg) and ask them to correct it before more jackballs falsely accuse you of being a sandbagger.
I think this is your real record: http://www.usacycling.org/results/?compid=431901
This is his: https://usacycling.org/results/?compid=212853.In the past, I was opposed to the rules retarding people’s desires to upgrade, but now agree with the rules a lot more. Finishing ten races before a 5 to 4 upgraded is totally sensible unless you are just silly faster than everyone else race after race. Like Hozn suggested, when you get your tenth race finished, ask for a jump to 3 instead of just to 4 if u have enough points. You need just 10 points which I think you already have. http://www.usacycling.org/cyclo-cross-category-upgrade-guidelines.htm

First loser! Well, first place was way off the front and I wasn’t going to catch him on a wide open course like that. Time to buy a CX bike!
Oh, and I would have done the 4/5, but I had stuff going on in the afternoon!
Regardless of your bike or schedule, aren’t you a bit of a sang-bagger as a Cat 2 racing in a Cat 5 race or even the 4/5 race?

I found the bear video. It does look fake, unlike the deer video.
]I do not think the bear video is fake at all. It so does not look like a bear suit to me and no way could a person run on all fours that long. CGI? I don’t know.

Thanks for setting this up, Kathy! I’m looking forward to it. About the golden nugget… Will that go to the rider who rides the most miles on Jan 1 or the rider with the longest ride on Jan 1? Last year I thought it was to be the former but I was wrong. :p
How about adding who does a ride with the most other Freezers?

ParticipantI am not the biggest fan of GoPro like stuff, but this is freaking amazing. From the 4/5 race. Love the readout of cadence, speed, etc…

Hey a few of us were in the same race with you. Tim Kelley crushed it on a mtb and finished 2nd. I battled with ShawnoftheDread but he bested me and took 6th, I finished 7th. Glad you came out to race, sorry I didn’t know who you were.
I was not sure who you all were either. I was the guy on the Ti 29er hardtail with Jones bars The link is to a photo of me and my bike in the DCCX. I had a white Potomac Velo jersey on this weekend and orange grips on the bars.
I was not super far behind you three in 7-9th mid-second lap. I had a hope to catch you after the low hump barriers, but I did something way dumb. I turned too early in a turn and got caught up in the tape. Getting myself extracted pegged my heart rate. I did not recover until after the sand pit and then it was too late for me to close the gap. Even without this, at best I would have caught but not passed 9th and 8th (David Stearman and Brian Indre) No way would have I caught you.
So looking forward to the 45 plus 3/4/5 next year. Wish I could have gotten the 10 races in this year to move to cat 4.

Participantrcannon100, where did you get this photo from?
The event was super cool. I raced the first race at 8:15 and nearly everything was still frozen. That was a good thing, I assume as things melted it got tougher. Had a good race and finished 10th.
My only disappointment, the beer tent could not open early enough for me. I assume that fault lies with the VA State Gov.

ParticipantI feel evil saying this, but I hope for a new congress gov shutdown in Feb or March. If it happens and it is not way cold nor snowy, I plan to go to Stokesville and ride every freaking day. Actually I will probably rent the Stokesville Lodge and make an open Freezing Saddle invite for anyone to join me. I will take my MTB, cross and road bike.
Is it bad I am lying around fantasizing about this? Even the details of routes such as double death climb day, sm100 halfway backwards, Wild Oak slog fest, …..

ParticipantAlready signed up for one race, thinking of also signing up for the single speed at 3:15.

ParticipantI just noticed something I did rank high in, slowest. I was 8th slowest overall.

ParticipantMy only goal is to be a obvious outlier on the Individual Distance, Elevation, Speed chart. Not like Rod S nor Pete B but like Will L. This spring I need to concentrate on climbing if I am really going to do 4 NEU 100 milers with my GF.

Before Sheldon Brown passed away, I once talked to him about how this article claims the rear brake should only be used about 5% of the time. (In 1999 or so) I think he added a bit of exceptions to that section later. The conversation grew out of an insulting e-mail I got from Richard Schwinn about how much of a putz I was for wanting rear brakes that worked on my ~1998 Gunnar Rockhound. The seatstays were so flexy the brakes both deflected outwards and rotated, causing the pads to move into the tire. After that frame broke at the headtube, my second Rockhound frame was remarkably better.
Regardless, brake pads/shoes and brake rotors/rims/drums should be seen as wear items. Yes keeping them clean, not dragging brakes, not riding in the wet, …. will all reduce wear but so will not riding at all and that is definitely unacceptable.
