Dislike the uppity ministers and such who plan to put a stop to riding in “their” cemeteries.

These ones are privately owned so there is validity to the their attitude. Of course I bet these cemeteries, like churches, mosques, temples, not really open museums, non-effective charities, …. hide behind tax exempt status stealing revenue from the municipalities they demand services from.

Wow, that second sentence is a mine field.

Because bikes are toys? Or somehow irreverent? But cars are allowed in the cemetery. What if you had been driving a sports car? Or an even better question: what if you had been riding your bike to visit a grave? Or going to a burial? Then is your bike allowed?

There are signs posted stating the only permitted visitors are people visiting graves or services in the cemeteries. Does not ban any specific mode of transport.

They could (and maybe do) develop algorithms to detect cheating, but really ?? Cheating at Strava is a truly pathetic cry for help.

Digital EPO and most other cheating to speed things up does leave some very odd things in the data. I’ve got a blog posting bookmarked at home about it I’ll try to find.

And I’ve heard Strava semi-covertly looks for such shenanigans and Tom-Foolery

Of course GPX files are plain text and soooo easy to manipulate. Easy to change dates, timestamps and what not. Simple to make yourself look cool doing laps at Haines Points in Jan 1977 (the coldest Jan in the last 50 years) or shaving the seconds.mins off to make yourself look faster than a drugged up Geneviève Jeanson.

The adapters are surprisingly expensive but they work fine. I have one from “Filzer” which doesn’t seem to be sold in the US anymore but was a lot cheaper than the Yakima/Thule/Rockymounts options. I just throw a lock in the car if I’m expecting to stop for lunch where I can’t see the car.

I am not sure this is 100% true, but the reason they are so expensive is Hurricane Components patented the design quickly in the US and Canadian markets. So Thule, Yakima, Rocky Mounts, etc has to pay them a royalty fee per unit. They have also supposedly sent “lawyerly” letters to MTBR and other sites to take down Do-it-Yourself plans people were posting. No idea if this is true, partially true or just the rantings of conspiracy theorists.

Yep, and I just had Bikenetic order some since all of us have new El Mar’s with through Axles. Hopefully they’ll be in before the weekend. Jan says the Rocky Mount ones are way better than the other brands so I think that is what they are getting.

Regardless always remember locks just keep the honest, honest.

I am 99.985% sure the times over segments are not based on ride time, but total time. Anything else would be nuts and could make it easy for a patient slow poke to knock anyone off the leaderboards of longer segments.

Actually I am positive of it and have seen real examples. Been riding with friends who fly at 10 mph up a mountain with a segment and then stop and wait for me before the end of the defined segment. I suffered the whole way to the end of the segment at 3.5 mph but since they waited for me, their ride time for the segment, and average speed, was the same.

Yakima, Thule and a few others make adapters. Most of them do not have a way to lock the bike into the adapter, so someone can just take the axle out and make off with your bike without being hampered by a normal fork mount lock. Don’t worry about getting the brand to match your rack or trays, they will all work in all the racks.

It is why I added stout cable locks to my roof rack a few years ago. Rocky Mounts does make a locking one. I have never seen one in person and cannot attest to how well it works.

Yeah, what has that jerk Tim Kelley ever done for our cycling community anyway? And he’s too damn tall and good looking, to boot. Jerk.

The thing is, you’re making a false assumption that the existence of the segment is creating the dangerous riding, an assumption lacking strong evidence. But we’ve been over this ad nauseum.

Yea which is why I let it lie until Tim Kelley brought it up again today.

But who will be left to flag every single segment on their ride then?

Let me be blunt. I was right on that issue. The folks that race and hammer on the bike paths are simply a threat to other trail users and a threat to the cycling community in general. If you cannot see that, you are simply self centered without any concern for the cycling community. And as I stated back then, I have stopped flagging segments on the paths, even those segments some jackball from this forum called things like “Raymo853 is an asshole who needs punched.”

I’ll be honest, it is making me waste too much time looking at Strava and the leader boards. The whole thing is having a slight negative effect on me, making riding in the winter less fun. Worrying about making sure the app is running and that I am covering enough miles has become silly instead of just riding.

I had a bit of a Strava problem before BAFS and this is more proof it will be wise for me stop using Strava all the time after 11:59 PM on March 19th. No longer will I be worried about my favorite segments in town, run the app while commuting, for every ride and so on. It is also convenient my Strava paid account ends March 15th.

Don’t think I am not still wanting to get points. I plan to take March 19th off and try to get a solo 150 mile ride in that will end with one Hains Point lap. (My only one during BAFS 2015)

I was also going to reward the person on “Must not be named” with the biggest drop in points total over the next two weeks.

Of course don’t get too complacent, our two teams have swapped places to often.

Expect me as Captain to come up with a motivational schema for us Dozers. I hope to post about it this eve.
