ParticipantThe proper link would be http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/bik/4925980363.html
Calling this vintage is funny. I think it is about a 1997. Restraining comment on the asking price.

Sorry you aren’t feeling well. My suggestion for you is to get lots and lots of rest. Stay off the bike for 3-5 days and drink lots of fluids. We look forward to your speedy recovery and good health!
Stayed home from work today. Watching Star Trek reruns and eating a lot of soup.
Found a photos of me in putz mode. Man can I ever get my helmet on straight.

ParticipantThe conditions were perfect for my preferences, too bad my health wasn’t. Riding my CX bike in the slop is something I cherish, since outside of races I refrain from doing that.
I was feeling a little ill before the start. After about 12 miles of going reasonable hard, the illness really began to express itself. After that point, I putzed along not going hard enough to make myself breath hard at all. At the end of the first lap I dropped. Was very cool to be going along super slow and watch so many people pass me. That really is the best way to watch a bike race.

ParticipantPhoto of how it looks today. A buddy checked it out today. It is as expected, damp, wet and moist. The park officials closed some of the single track to the race.

ParticipantMumbles just sent out an email saying the Strade is delayed until March 21st, so I think I am back to doing the Monster. Mark send an email saying the course is looking good. I still expect it to be a mud bog.

ParticipantI assume you mean Wed March 4th and this Best Buns in Shirlington.

Good thing forecasts change! Right now they’re calling for sunny skies with highs in the low 50s. Thoughts on tire selection anyone?
Regardless of the conditions the day of, I suspect mud will still be a problem. Those soils are well drained, but cold temps and frozen soils really retard drainage.
I am feeling wimpy and may just do the Stokesville Strade Saturday and have my Monster registration refunded or transferred to 2016.

ParticipantThere are disc versions of the FX series that look good to me. The 7.4 Disc that is about $220 more than the 7.2 Disc than is $70 less. For commuting where you may leave the bike outside locked up, I suggest the cheaper one.

I may be confused on where this is, but are you talking about S Queen street off of 23rd Street S near Fraser Park? Those two are so close to each other and connected by a road with a bike route on it already.

Currently the gap between second place and the first is greater than the gap between second and seventh place.
The gap is now greater than the difference between second place and eleventh place.

The Navy Annex has been demolished and cleared, so I don’t know why someone can’t put down a temporary or permanent trail there this year. According to the Navy Annex project site, all clean-up work is done and the land has been turned over to Arlington National Cemetery (from the Dept. of the Army). ARL will have to reach an agreement on a land swap. If the larger land deal continues to be delayed, why not reach a smaller deal on a Columbia Pike trail?
The current sidewalk is sub-par, but it’s usable for slower-speed travel. However, there isn’t really room to pass oncoming bike or pedestrian traffic unless you slow down to walking speed.
I do not see that section along Columbia Pike by the old Navy Annex site as a problem, since there is an easy way around it. I do not go that way but use Orme St and Southgate. The real problem is getting from Columbia Pike & Southgate to Columbia Pike & Orme. There are no alternatives as all the sides roads and parks are not connected. And of course the underpass South Washington Rt 27 is a major choke point.
Here is my suggestion. Get some sort of pedestrian & bicycle bridge or tunnel just north of the underpass. Then get easements and build a multi-use path on the lands by Navy Support Facility and Towers Park and the adjacent townhouse.

GAH.
People sometimes.
I remember failing this type of question on my first VA driver’s exam, but for being “too cautious” (and therefore, potentially more dangerous). The question had asked what to do if you encounter a school bus with flashing lights pulled over on the other side of a *divided* highway (or divided road). That is, essentially, with an island in the middle or with raised railing or cement divider. I think I answered the multiple choice answer that said “stop”, but in that particular case, that is wrong.
Regardless, when it’s divided, regardless of type of division, I proceed cautiously and with heightened awareness (in car or on bike).
B
Suitland Rd does not have a median or any type of division so you would be failing again. (unlike Suitland Parkway that does)
Raymo853
ParticipantHoly mackerel! While riding along Suitland road just South of Southern, I saw a whole bunch of cars ignore the flashing lights on a yellow school bus.
This school bus stop is horrid as kids come from both sides of Suitland and the bus only picks up from one side. The first car to go around the bus from behind hit a car coming the other way. (Who was also ignoring the lights.)
Turns out, that black sedan turned into Lincoln Cemetery. Sanity, a desire not to get arrested for assault again, and hoping to catch Dave from NOAA before the end of the hill stopped me from even looking over at the car to see if it was the same minister.
