Yay. That’s my neck of the woods (haha) and I’d love to meet up and do some trail riding, it’s been almost a decade since I’ve done single track but I’m building up a rigid 29er for the summer.
Hope you’ll make it some week.

Also, I’m not in the running to win – just playing for fun. (We could also do a ride swap day and add +1 to our scores as well.) And who knows, I may give out prizes for 2nd, 3rd, etc…
Pulled my mother-in-law ‘s old road bike out of storage, made sure it was in working order and rode it around getting an idea if it can be sold for much. It all works pretty well.

Nope, but if it comes down to a tiebreaker it may enter into consideration.
Well the only people that can catch Cyndi are you and I, and if she just finds two more bike to ride then we cannot exceed her. I’ve only got one extra n left plus may borrow a bike Wed at the Dupont group ride.

ParticipantI am going to ask for an evaluation for this. Does my Indy Fab Club Racer now qualify for a point, partial point, etc? It got a point when it was a single speed with CX tires. It now has new gearing, new wheels, including a generator hub, a new fork from Hans, and different brakes front and rear.

ParticipantThe only place I’ve run into trouble with people is by the high school by Suitland parkway. Yes the trouble was big, threatened with a fire arm, so I just stay away from there now.

Unfortunately all the bikeable routes are through DC. MD has been terrible about linking the Wilson bridge to anything bikeable on the east side of the river. Maybe some of those suburban highways are OK on weekends, but not a regular basis during rush hours. It’s pathetic really.
I use the Wilson bridge once in a while. It is much longer and yes those parts of SSE DC and MD are remarkably worse. Plus when the Oxen Hill gates get closed, it is a real pain. Plus when the half way youth center let’s the kids walkout side the fence, let’s be honest you do not feel safe.

ParticipantRegarding the prize. I plan to take photos of my free parts box and whomever has points, in order, can request an item or two. Here is an early photo:

ParticipantI gave this orange bike complete away to Jeff K, a climber buddy of mine. 2.00 points for full bike plus give away, *2 so 4.00 points.

ParticipantA submission:
I gave this Poprad frame, fork, headset, stem and seatpost to an old GF, Tanya, who then quickly gave it to her BF, Randy. He is using it for Jimmy John deliveries in Pittsburgh. So that is a 1.0 for partial bike plus a 2x modifier for giving away.

ParticipantChris, you know and I are commuting to the same place, Suitland Federal Center. Your typical commute there and back: https://www.strava.com/activities/512843804 My typical commute there: https://www.strava.com/activities/510854987 and back: https://www.strava.com/activities/506486940
Yes the Waterfront and Anacostia can both be annoying. And unfortunately, things like K Liz’s suggestion are not the greatest, as Suitland is worse than Anacostia. You could do sleazes like I do around the Federal Center.
One suggestion, skip the main roads in Anacostia. Things like Good Hope, Pennsylvanian, and Alabama are the worse things out there. (I’ve tries to convince the H of Ana folks to change it up) The traffic is fast, angry and usually snarled. The neighborhoods are empty, quiet and ones like Penn Branch and Fairfax Village are so nice. (I’ve been outbid on a lot of houses there) I find it so much better when I cut through these neighborhoods. So instead of going home via Penn: take Texas, Carpenter and Highwood. Or instead of Alabama, take Bangor, 32nd, PArk, 28th, R, … and then the little bridge under 295 on Nicholoson,……
I also stay away from the South Capital Bridge. Something about it and the DC side of that bridge really irks me. Actually not irks, but scares me with all the dumb trucks.
I too hate the gravel, and junk, on the entrances to Penn Ave bridge. I was going to take a page out of the suggestion to go shovel bike paths and go sweep off that area. Want to join me some eve next week?
I have also been considering riding to the Waterfront Metro, leaving the bike there and then metro-ing the rest of the way.

ParticipantRegarding bike share limitation, I think using bike shares from different systems should count. So a rides on dc and Quebec City systems should both count.
Raymo853
ParticipantMaybe the system sho I ld include a search for the warmest ride during BAFS. That person would not be awarded with a positive prize but some sort of raspberry prize.
