Yep. I am that person, registering after the deadline. So hoping there is a straggler team. Happy New year all!

Alan, the form is up, but not “live.” There is no submit button on the registration form yet.

Another thing … Are we really going to try to create teams based on locality? I don’t think Casey did that last year. And seems like it would be a total PITA to do. If everyone wants to be on a team where all their team members are close by, I’m guessing it will be nearly impossible to put together 20+ teams. Plus I always thought part of the “spirit” of FS was for people who lived in different places to get to know each other.

I agree with you sort of….. For those of us marooned in Maryland it would be nice if a group of Marylanders were on a team because we would be able to do more group rides. Last year was my first BAFS and I did make the journey out to Vienna and Arlington and various places to meet teammates. However, no one was really excited to come that far into Maryland territory. Maybe it’s the crazy drivers? Anyway I get that it would be a total pain in the behind, just my thoughts.

I added my info to the WABA tracker. I feel better prepared if this ever happens again. I really hope it doesn’t. I did get a copy of the police report and clearly states driver at fault. Driver was distracted. Now I’m just dealing with the insurance process and hoping to get back on a bicycle soon.

Thanks for the information. I will definitely check on that with MoCo. It is rather absurd when you think about it. A driver hits someone in a pedestrian crosswalk and doesn’t get a ticket. It’s like he didn’t take seriously because I was still alive.

The bike had some custom options. I only bought a few months ago so I have invoices. Dealer believes the impact from the car will void the manufacture’s warranty (Trek). Based on that I will need to get a new bike. Don’t know what happens to the damaged one. Hopefully I can keep to salvage something, but if insurance has to keep than so be it. The more I think about the more I’m sure a new bike is the only solution I’d be happy with because I researched and waited for this bike for many months and paid a lot of hard earned dollars for it.

Thanks. The driver’s insurance company already called (Geicco). Geicco clearly stated their driver was at fault. My bike is brand new (almost), completely carbon, Ultegra, Di2, disc brakes and carbon wheels. I’m a little concerned the insurance will balk at the potentially very high cost for bike damage. My iPhone was completely smashed because it flew from pocket and got ran over several times. That already cost me nearly $800 to replace, but is cheap compared to cost of bike. I also have Geicco so we will see how they treat me as a claimant.

No they did not! Afterward I was curious why they didn’t. I got ran into when I had a green light and the driver had a red light. The fault is clearly the driver’s but no citation. I did ask the officer to write a report. The driver was super apologetic, offered to pay damages and gave me a ride home. So maybe the officer thought he would “let it slide.” Clearly it was a violation though.

    Steve,

Thanks for hosting. This was my first Freezing Saddles but it won’t be my last! Thanks to everyone that brought snacks and rode laps. I’m working on recruiting more MoCo, Maryland people for 2019.

Looks like Saturday will be the blue bird day of the weekend. If anyone is up for a morning ride on the WOD, please let me know. I’m thinking of riding from WOD MM8 to Great Harvest Bread in Herndon (near Green Lizard) to pick up some bread, total about a 26mi RT. They provide free samples that are worthy of the trip out there.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the invite! I’ll probably hit up the WOD Sunday afternoon, but looks like I’ll probably stay local on Saturday. Alan A from another BAFS team is going to ride around Laytonsville, MD about 60 miles if anyone wants to come along.

I figured you would be a front-runner, looks like you’ve got some competition! Bob C from Team 18 is sitting at 75 ft/mi, Cynthia P from Team 22 at 60 ft/mi, and Rachel C from Team 17 @ 59 ft/mi just from my quick look at the “Distance Elevation Speed” chart.

Yay! I like that this is a thing now. I’m feeling smoked from all hilly riding up here in Maryland, but the promise of beer could change everything.

I’d love to do a ride this weekend, although my schedule is a little tight. We’re hoping to do a #beerneuring ride Sunday, all are welcome. I’ll post details once we figure it out.

Tentatively I’m open Thursday for mid-day HP laps if that works for people?

It looks like team four has something set up Sat. I might try and make it over to Vienna for this. I will keep my eye out for the #beerneuring ride info as well. I am headed out of town Sunday, but I am hoping to log some away miles in California.

“Legal in Las Vegas will be meeting up with any and all Freezing Saddle’ers this Saturday at Caffe Amouri in Vienna at 1100. 107 Church Street NE. Right off the bike trail. INFILTRATORS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED! Last year, the gathering at Caffe Amouri was HUGE. In fact, might’ve been the largest social gathering outside of the two Freezing Saddles happy hours.”
