ParticipantI’ll be there for the last hour or so. Georgetown is a bit of a hike from my work in Clifton.

ParticipantHave fun I will toast from my couch! Finally warm again after the Nokesville Nomad, there is no way I’m venturing out again. Had planned to ride to DC from Nokesville, but the weather kicked my ass hard.

Participantn=9, My 2015 Kona Blast. Got this beast from my parents as an early Christmas present last November. Far and away my favorite Christmas present ever. It is a fairly entry-level 650b mountain bike by Kona, but I absolutely love it. I’m an awful mountain biker and this bike has been great to learn on so far. I had tons of fun playing in the snow on it during the blizzard. It really lives up to it’s name, it is a freaking Blast to ride!

ParticipantN=8, My Brother’s 1980’s ish Soma Generation Fixie. My youngest brother built up this 80’s Japanese steel frame into a fixie for our middle brother. This was my second time riding fixed gear, both times on my hilly Clifton commute and i did not enjoy it whatsoever. I really like the simplicity of the drivetrain, just also want a freewheel. The geometry on this bike is all sorts of weird too.

Participantn=7, My Mom’s mid-90’s era Bianchi Eros. It is a super sweet lugged Italian steel road touring bike. It is setup with a triple crank, Campy Mirage, 8 speed drivetrain. Riding Campy for the first time in forever was funny, especially coming from Sram. I kept on upshifting then spinning like mad everytime I forgot to hit the button to downshift. I did like how I could downshift multiple gears in one push though. The bike was small for me, and as a result I was rocking a super aero position in the drops! Italians know how to make them, this bike tracks smooth and puts the power to the pavement!

You guys just sent me on a nostalgia trip looking for pics of my GT Outpost Trail. That was the first bike I ever had stolen.
Awww! My only bike ever stolen was a Huffy BMX bike I had from like ages 7-11. Still broke my heart though!

ParticipantN=6, My 1994 Cadex CFR3 road bike. Cadex was a sub brand of Giant back in the day. This bike was fairly high tech for it’s time with carbon tubing held together by aluminum lugs. It has an aluminum fork though, carbon forks were too expensive for this bikes price point of $1,000. My Dad bought it for me from a riding buddy when I was 15 or so. He had upgraded it to Campy Chorus, Mavic SUP rims, and a Chris King headset. Alas, only that headset remains. It has gone through many drivetrain permutations since then. I upgraded it to Sram Rival 22 last fall and love it. I’ve always loved this bike, it has a unique look I really enjoy. It may not be as light or stiff as modern roadbikes, but with its short chainstays it is very nimble, and at a hair under 20 lbs still light enough to climb quickly.

ParticipantNot quite to Rod’s level, but I am carfree and have done a decent amount of riding this challenge.

That was my first mountain bike. It actually is an adequate bike for any mountain biking in the region
I enjoyed the GT so much that I decided I would try to find one of the new Zaskars — yes, in 29″, I do enjoy the big wheels. Finally a like-new frame came up on ebay this winter and now my mountain bike is once again a GT hardtail. Full circle.
My first was a GT Bullet. It was an “18 speed” and I LOVED that bike! I’ve owned 3 different GT’s, loved them all. Triple Triangle FTW!!

ParticipantN = 5, Dad’s GT Avalanche 3.0. It felt strange to be on a 26″ mountain bike, it was so little compared to my 650b Kona. Seems like an adequate bike for the mild off-roading my Dad does.

ParticipantN = 4, my Mom’s Trek 7.2. Kind of like a generic bicycle, nothing special about it, but very functional. The V brakes blow, though…

I strongly considered Redline bikes when I got my Kona but the shop didn’t really carry them except for special order so I couldn’t really test ride.
I was torn between the Redline and a Van Dessel Full Tilt Boogie (both used). The Hydro discs vs Canti’s and the fact that Bikenetic is a Redline dealer (warranty help) swayed me towards the Conquest Pro. I’ve never had a bike this nice so I’m probably biased, but it blows my mind how much fun it is to ride.
If I hadn’t gone the used route, I was going to go with a Kona Private Jake or Jamis Nova Pro.
