Hi all! This is my very first Freezing Saddles! I live in Anacostia, less than a mile away from the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. In October, I got to exchange in my soul-sucking drive to Fairfax for a GLORIOUS seven mile bike ride to Brookland. I’m working up to longer miles, but so far I can only seem to manage 40 on my own, 90 on a tandem. BTW! I have TWO tandems, if we want to do that kind of a team ride.
My fiancé is on Team 1, and I would very much like to beat him.
Bear hugs,
Katie ).Two tandems, that is so cool!
40 miles solo is nothing to sneeze at and riding in the cold is definitely a lot harder. Riding all winter you will be a lot stronger than you realize come spring! For me personally riding with groups is what helped me build up to longer rides. Enjoying the company of others/shared misery took my mind off the miles and allowed me to go further than I thought possible.

ParticipantQuick introduction about myself:
I live in “Alexandria” but really the suburbs in Kingstowne/Franconia area. I have a reverse commute out to Clifton, VA where I am the office manager of a small IT consulting company. My commute is a wasteland for cycling infrastructure but does have some beautiful, hilly, windy roads as I get near to work. I’m a member of Team (Cult?) Bikenetic and enjoy racing CX, gravel, Mountain, and sometimes even Road. I really love doing gravel rides out in Loudoun County on the weekends.
Would love to get some team rides going, open to ideas. Doing the dry January thing, but starting Feb 1st I’m down for Happy Hour meetups and definitely some brewery/winery rides. I’ll probably start attending Tuesday Hills religiously (I know I’ll see Steve there!), and Coffee Rides Sunday morning. I’m pretty much always down to ride, whatever terrain and whatever pace, just hit me up!

i’m in and my Meager Miles (tm) are now counting toward the Team Sleet 16 decisive victory.
No miles are meager! Consistency is key, just sleazing every day of BAFS is good for close to 900 points.

ParticipantI do just before midnight rides quite often during the year to keep my ride streak alive! For this prize does it have to be your only ride of the day, or could I also do a midnight ride just for the hell of it in addition to my commuting or whatnot?

ParticipantThanks for all the hard work!

ParticipantGlad to be a part of the soon to be winning team! I’m ready to kick my riding into high gear and really lay down some miles!!

ParticipantBlack ice got me twice last night. First was going up the pedestrian overpass in Springfield, wiped out hard. Had to walk/slide down the down ramp. Less than 10 minutes later I came around a curve on the Franconia Metro path and slid out, sliding for 30+ feet. Only my pride was wounded although I did lose an expensive Lezune tail light.

ParticipantThe quality of the prize is spectacular! I fully intend upon defending my win from last year!

ParticipantI have Lake MX 145 boots and I love them until it gets into the low 20’s. For the last few days I have worn a thin liner sock, put toe warmers across my toes, then a heavy wool sock. Paired with compression shorts, tights, wind/rain pants, thermal base layer, Showers Pass Jacket, silk glove liners, Gore Windstopper gloves, 2 Buffs, and ski goggles and I was ok for 16 miles each way yesterday.

This bike isn’t the fastest or lightest (don’t tell her that though…), but it’s fun to ride and has served me very well as a commuter over the past few years.
Who cares about fast or light if it is fun to ride! I also put my morning coffee in a Contigo into a bottle cage.
