ParticipantThere are still a couple months to go in the fall. So there is still time for them to meet their latest schedule of Fall 2015.
Astronomical fall began on Sept. 23 and lasts until Dec. 21. Meteorological fall began on Sept. 1 and ends on Nov. 30.

I’ve always looked at NBC as less of a competition than as another way for public policy makers and advocates to promote cycling and show how many miles are possible by bike. It would be great if the Washington Post and other news outlets broadcast how many miles/trips we achieved in a few months. I think your average joe completely underestimates how much biking is going on in this area.
Lastly, the NBC encourages people to use GPS to track their rides which can only be helpful to planners on figuring out where to put bike infrastructure. Too bad the Cabi bikes don’t have tracking devices too for this reason (though I know the privacy folks would be up in arms about it).
CaBi doesn’t have GPS tracking, but they do track trip starts/stops. The data is not as precise as GPS data, but it does show general trends on station/neighborhood usage.

ParticipantMaybe. They spoke about renovating the trail between the George Mason Bridge (14th St) and the Jefferson Memorial a while ago. But there have been no updates on that project either.

ParticipantTransitway Community Meeting on Oct. 8
County staff will hold a community meeting next week to provide an update on Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway construction and proposed operations and plans to repave and restripe Crystal Drive (see a description of the restriping proposal on the transit lanes page).
Date: Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015
Time: 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Location: Renaissance Inn, 2800 S. Potomac Ave., Arlington, VA 22202 (Studio B on 2nd Floor)http://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/VAARLINGTON/bulletins/11cbe1d

Coming Soon – Repaving of Crystal DriveBefore the Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway opens, the County will repave Crystal Drive between 15th and 26th Streets. The paving is expected to begin in the next few weeks and will last for several weeks, weather permitting.
Milling and paving operations may be performed at night in selected areas to reduce the impact on traffic, and some lanes may be closed to traffic during this work. The repaving will begin at 15th Street and then head south toward 26th Street.
When paving dates are confirmed, we will send out notifications through this email update, the Crystal City Civic Association and BID, and other channels.

ParticipantThe Wheaton bike stations are expected to be installed by the end of 2016.
Was there a lot of demand for bikeshare in Wheaton? This is the first I’ve heard of it. (However, I don’t follow Montgomery Co. developments as closely as I follow ARL and DC news.)

ParticipantSome rain tomorrow expected, but torrential rains are likely on Friday. More than 2 inches of rain in the forecast. Expect flash flooding in the usual flood-prone areas.
Hurricane Joaquin is not expected to hit us, if it travels in this direction, until Sunday or Monday, I believe. The hurricane could also stay offshore before making landfall farther to the north.

ParticipantOn the fictional front, in the original X-Files series, Crystal City was the setting for the “Federal Statistics Center” of the U.S. Census Bureau, which housed records proving the existence of alien facsimiles in the human population. Fox Mulder breaks into the Crystal City facility and uses the password “Fight the Future.” The “Three Words” episode aired on April 8, 2001. Season 8, Episode 16.
The location used for the scene had an appearance similar to that of Crystal City, but it’s unlikely that the scene was filmed there.

http://x-files.wikia.com/wiki/Three_WordsIn an earlier episode, “Ghost in the Machine” Season 1, Ep. 7, Mulder and Scully investigate a murder at a software company based in Crystal City. The computer system has developed intelligence and self-awareness and begins to kill in order to protect itself.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Machine_(The_X-Files)I remember that the character Fox Mulder was supposed to live in Alexandria. Scully lived in Georgetown and/or Maryland.
The alien invasion in the series was supposed to happen on December 22, 2012.
Of course, there are no real-life locations for any of this. But I remember being on a tour in London where the guide pointed out the real-life location where the James Bond from the original novels was supposed to have lived. So why not point out locations from The X-Files set in Arlington?
The X-Files had a huge fanbase, and interest will increase because the show is returning to television, in January. Really. FOX will air a limited run of new episodes, featuring most of the original cast, including David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The six-episode season begins on January 24, 2016.
