Was there a car involved?
Couldn’t tell. It didn’t look like there was a car stopped, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Coworker in the office here says that if you are in downtown Baltimore, then head north on Falls Rd or N Charles St and pick up Hillside Rd by 83/695 going west and then you’re out in rolling horse country!
Yup. I lived in Baltimore for 2 years, and this is what I would recommend. To get up that way I’d take Charles to University, University will kind of turn into Roland, take Roland to Lake, turn left on Lake and take that to Falls. Once you get out of the city on Falls there are a lot of really pretty, rolling roads without too much traffic.

Well, I’m half way there. I found a Salsa La Cruz on Ebay, and managed to get it for a reasonable price. Should be here hopefully no later than next week. Its Salsas Steel ‘cross bike from a few years back, it even orange (WIN). Once I get it setup with rack fenders etc, I’ll post a couple of photos. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I’ve had a La Cruz for 4 years–great choice, you won’t regret it! Mine is currently set up with rack and fenders–I used hose clamps on the seatstays, and had to omit one of the rear fender struts to avoid the disc brake, but it’s still quite a sturdy setup.

I’m hoping it was catch and release.
He said it was. Perhaps I’m a wuss, but it still grosses me out.

ParticipantYou: Guy fishing in sewage-infested 4 Mile Run yesterday by the Rt. 1 underpasses. I stopped to make sure you had heard about the sewage spill and the notice to avoid the water. You said you had, and that everything was fine because you were wearing latex gloves.
Me: Thoroughly grossed out, but at least able to ride on with a clear conscience.

ParticipantSame thing happened to me about a year ago, and now I know to take it extra slow through there. The dude in front of me on my ride last Friday morning had to learn that lesson the hard way. I had to brake fairly quickly when he went down and started to feel my tires washing out, but luckily I stayed upright
