I of course will be on my BRAND SPANKING NEW Surly Troll this weekend. It is a small as I am only about 5’4. But I am sure it is pure beauty…..
I will post pictures as soon as I pick her/him up. Haven’t decided on the gender yet I will have to meet him/her and then decide. I am currently thinking she is a beast.

Hooray for purple trolls!
(yours is purple, right?)

ParticipantObligatory plug for the Salsa Fargo, which is frabjous:
Alternatively, the Vaya.
Also, if you’re interested, you can try my Fargo for size (I’m 5’5″; it’s not easy to find a Fargo on shop floors, for fear that it’s sheer awesomeness would render all other bikes worthless).

ParticipantTo muddy further the waters of internet direct sales, there’s also On-one/PlanetX: http://www.planet-x-usa.com/. I bought a Pompino frameset from them 1.5 years ago, and I’m pretty happy with it. Their complete bikes look pretty decent, too.

ParticipantOh oh oh… another one:
But does it count if my bike fell but I didn’t?
On the day of the first proper snow, I was riding the fixie for the 2nd time evar, and going really slow. On the slight dip from Providence St turning left onto Oak St in Vienna, I was going still slower because it was so slippery, and at one point the bike slipped and just .. went away. I wasn’t clipped to it, so it was definitely surprising to find myself standing at the top of the hill while my bike found its way into a ditch. I didn’t even have enough forward momentum to stumble or nothin’ – just “now my feets are on pedals … and now on ground”.

ParticipantKid Cannon’s out of his cave, as evidenced by our “points this week” chart: http://freezingsaddles.com/explore/team_weekly
(and also evidenced by me seeing him in person yesterday)

ParticipantFunny, I’ll need to use most of those roads they speak of to get to the dang school in the first place, so I can provide fresh opinions.

ParticipantTwice: Once on the Bikenetic ride to Buzz Bakery – we went over a bridge section that was all ice, and I was one of the two silly persons not riding on studly tires. I made it far enough to scream “we’re all gonna die!” before going down, though.
The second time wasn’t really a fall so much as it was trying to injure various parts of my bike by using my body.

I flew by NVRPA today out on the W&OD pulling a gas-powered blower behind their truck. The result: no more winter grit and debris out at least to Hunter Mill, which is as far as I went. I was surprised to see it, and I’m grateful for their effort!
Did the Gallows crosswalk light seem borken to you? It seemed to take several yonks both last evening and this morning.
Also, someone needs to get the crap off the Gallows bike shoulder, for it is a mess.

ParticipantGreat Falls has more traffic than I care for, really. The Pinecastle > Barbour > Idylwood > Idyl > Pimmit is the route I vote for. My wife and I take Rt7 when we’re riding together, but it aggravates my acute misanthropy more than hers.

I hate trying to merge from the end of the bike lane on Gallows to make a left on Old Courthouse. Would love to see Tysons come through on some better bike infra over there.
I was going right, but yeah, the bike lane needs to go all the way, or at least end at a less daft spot.

ParticipantTWO found connections today, when I least expected them:
1. The schoolbus driver on Idylwood who waved me through as I waited to turn left: thank you, because I didn’t think that stream of cars would ever end. AND THEN, you stuck behind me as my tired legs dragged me on Oak St, but didn’t pull any of the dumb overtaking moves I’ve seen so many others do.
2. The SUV driver who also didn’t pull a dumb close-overtaking move and hung back as I merged from the end of the Gallows bike shoulder into traffic. I really hope you saw me wave thanks, because you are a rare breed, you.

ParticipantI signed up for the 59-mile, and it’s going to be rainy so yay!
How dumb would it be to do this on a singlespeed?

MAN THOSE THINGS ARE LOUD WHEN WET! I didn’t know it was possible to jump that high in loafers.
My front mini-Vs are ear-piercing. After vague attempts to fix that, I’ve embraced the sound, for exactly this reason. I’ve seen drivers look around with that “oh crap what did I do” look, even.
