ParticipantI love my Lake CX140s – I bought them on Nashbar at the beginning of summer – DEAL! I wear a US 11-12 normally and a 46 allows for plenty of sock room. These things have made winter biking fun.

ParticipantDifferent strokes. My hatred is less driven by my innate introversion, but rather by my deep-seated fear that a headless horseman will chase me down on some country lane without my posse.

ParticipantEspresso GO GO at the start makes the first 20 fly by. Also, if you are in a pace line for the next 80 miles or so it REALLY isn’t that bad. Ample chamois cream, food, and friends make a century work. A solo century, no support, no people, is living hell.

ParticipantHoly crap this guy is not human.

ParticipantI’m just glad my normal commuter mileage was able to be converted into something fun. It didn’t so much motivate me as reinvigorate me. My main motivator is a highly internalized fear of Metro.

Is it weird that the only thing I really noticed in that story was all the ninja cyclists in the B-roll? Get some lights, idiots!
Ditto. Also, if it had been yards from a WMATA police shack then the juvenile would have been able to get away.

ParticipantCan they hose down the TR boardwalk with this stuff – just apply liberally, wash, rinse, repeat.

ParticipantIt was doubly bad a week ago when they were sealing asphalt in the Mason parking lot with a giant blow torch. Sometimes you see Darwinism in motion, other times it smacks you right in your face with its awesomely opposable thumbs.
August 29, 2012 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Accident at Lynn St and Lee Highway Intersection of Doom, Wednesday, August 29? #949915pfunkallstar
ParticipantI went through there at about 8:15ish and saw the immediate aftermath of the accident. From what I could tell, the small grey coupe was trying to turn right onto Lynn Street but got t-boned by a crane truck, yes a multi-ton crane truck. I can only imagine that the impact was sub-20mph or so, otherwise that little car would have disintegrated. Yet another reason to rework this intersection.

Wasn’t me but sounds like me. I usually pass/get passed by people and never see them again, but every once in a while I’ll fall in with someone like that and always feel kinda bad about it. I usually end up ruining my rest intervals b/c I’m trying to stay ahead. Never works.
I sped past a guy this morning whose fender seemed to be consolidating the harmless spray into a veritable geyser of muck and goo. He didn’t seem to care, but he was also wearing knee high socks and Keds.

ParticipantDefinitely sounds like a cool event. Much better than the National Grammar Rodeo in Canada.

Construction is progressing. The NPS seems to be doing this project with their in-house crew.
The new trail section will be nice and wide.
And although some might think it rude of me to highlight this, the congestion contrast between the MVT and the GWMP was pretty obvious.
Nobody seemed to be loving their commute, except us cyclists!
That is pretty much the only reason I love riding on the MVT to Custis – sharp contrast. I even smile in the rain.

ParticipantSorry about that…

Update
Visited the site on the way home tonight. It is staked out for an alignment with gentle curves and maximum visibility for the trail users. The actual crosswalk location will be as far as practical from the roadway split.
I think it will be a good strategy that will improve trail safety.
Agreed, I really like the layout. I hope it happens sooner rather than later. I saw a 70+ couple in a green Toyota with their hood caved in the other day, hope this change helps with the number and frequency of auto-auto, auto-others accidents.

ParticipantI don’t work my legs out anymore – 100+ miles a week does that pretty well. I took a look at Convict Conditioning and it is pretty much what I already do, albeit more formalized. I REALLY like body weight-only exercises, I’m looking to tone not build muscle.
