What about black ice? any suggestions?
I put my studded tires on in mid-December and take them off in mid-March. For decades, I used Nokian Hakkapeliitta W106, which are the most durable. After changing offices to one primarily served by a rutted MUP, I switched to Schwalbe Marathon Winter, which deal with ruts better, roll easier, but wear more rapidly. Still, with use only a quarter of a year, they still last at least 5 years.

ParticipantIt was open for this evening’s rush as well. As earlier reported, the area above the stairs has been freshly paved. It was not obvious how the stairs would have to be blocked again. In any case, I found the stairs to be a vast improvement over the Memorial Bridge Magical Mystery Tour.

ParticipantDoes anyone know who dreamed up this mad idea of “fixing” the perfectly adequate 14th street ramp?

ParticipantI just came home via Four Mile Run. It is in very good shape and would be easy even without studded tires. It is plowed to to half width with dry pavement and a few ice spots. The connection to Eads is another story — deep sticky snow which would be difficult to walk in, even if not pushing a bike. However, twenty feet and you are on a dry road. The bike lanes on Eads are blocked, but the rest of the road is fine.
