ParticipantI live in Fairfax City and had a temporary job assignment near the Springfield Metro a coupld of summers ago. I took the Fairfax County Parkway Trail for most of the ride. I had to get creative bc the trail diverts and I had to cross the pkway at a light, then pick up the trail across the street. You want to pick up Hoos Road at the intersection of Olde Lantern Way/Gambrill Rd. Take Hoos Rd/trail down to Backlick. You want to take a left and not cross the street. There’s a pedestrian overpass which will shoot you out along Loisdale. Take a right on metropolitan Center Drive. About 100 yards on the left is a trail that will take you to the Metro. This trail is a bit sketchy, so watch out for glass. I wouldn’t take it after dark though.
Oh, the ride to the Metro is downhill, so your commute home is a bit more challenging.
Good luck!

ParticipantJust received the Atlantic coast map (section 3) from Adventure Cycling. Very detailed and takes you from PA to Richmond http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/atlanticcoast.cfm It cost under $20 (w/shipping).
Good luck.PanthersFan
ParticipantAfter reading the article I bought the noseless saddle made by Spiderflex. I rode 16 miles with it the next day and never felt I had full control over my bike. I adjusted the seat several times, but no luck. I sent the seat back.

ParticipantI’m headed in the same direction in late August, so let us know how it it goes. My destination is Fredericksburg, so I’m particularly interested in that leg. The VDOT bike map shows a suggested route http://www.virginiadot.org/bikemap/, but I also have a map coming from the Adventure Cycling Association that may suggest a different route. I’ll post their suggestion as soon as I get the map.

ParticipantI’m riding from GMU to old town Fredericksburg. The Bike Route 1 is different than the Route 1 most of us avoid. The VDOT bike map http://www.virginiadot.org/bikemap/ shows the Bike Route 1 going around the Prince William Forest.
