I think I should get a jersey that says “Please pull me”.

Or “Pull my finger”. Oh did I just post that?

It’s especially nice when the person in front pulling is super huge. I’m not a big guy but every now and then on the trail, some big dude will pass me (just because he’s feeling frisky) and decide that he’ll try to drop me. That feeling of “no swooshy air” around me is addictive but it doesn’t last long. For the most part, we end up taking turns at the front pulling to save energy. Sometimes they want to be up front and pull all the way….so I just let them.

I hadn’t ridden a bike in ten days due to vacation so I finished up my ride yesterday at Hain’s Pt. Inspired by this thread I decided to do my last lap as fast as I could and got drafted for the first time!! (I was on my road bike, not my big heavy hybrid). He was so close to me and quiet that I wouldn’t have noticed him there if I hadn’t caught his helmet a few times in my mirror. I was very proud of myself till a co-worker pointed out that the drafter was helping with my speed since he was pushing the air in front of him. This effect is evidently seen much in Nascar races. At least I won’t feel quite so guilty the next time I’m drafting off someone for the few blocks I can keep up.

I don’t use the saddle bag but I do carry (on my beater steed)

    Telescopic pump
Swiss Army Knife w/ the built in light (trick huh)
    Spare Tube
    Tire Levers
Flashlight (comes in handy when doing road side repairs in the winter months)
    Spare Wind Vest

Endura Humvee is what I use for my commute. Pockets are abundant. Breathes. Plus I can walk in a coffee shop looking like I’m wearing street clothes.

Tips on getting the right bell:

Make sure it it accommodates your handle bar securely. Good bells come with a “Zip tie” like strap
Make sure it’s loud as sh..
    Ambidextrous mounting.

I mount mine close to the stem because I’m on the flat part of the bars most of the time so my left index finger is on the ready all the time. I’ve set it up so it all feels natural which also means I don’t have to relocate my left hand just to ring my dinger. Best of luck.

Just like MCL I too use a bell on my beater. It’s really easy to spot if the ped heard the “ding” but if they’re being stupid then they’re gonna get a “HEY” or something else. Perhaps the trail needs to be wider or a divide it for pedestrian use only.

The answers are endless on that one. I used to hear “How come my RX Hybrid gets less gas mileage than what I see online? Or “It gets less gas mileage than my neighbors RX”.

Some vendors in the event should have them on hand as “freebies”.

I didn’t make it to Sugarloaf with you guys on that ride. My rear derailleur cable snapped on the shifter side @ mile 30ish. So I had to single speed it back to the parking lot.

Thanks a bunch my bike brothers. Now I have something to show my bro-in-law/poseur roadie. Baptism by fire is looming. See you guys on the next Dom Boonen Gran Fondo.
