Me too. I’ll make sure to put the air horns on full blast passing them.

Your assuming the person with earphones in can’t hear what is going on around them. I can hear your bike rolling. I can hear your bell. I can hear you call on the left. So if you’re going to protest calling your passes, then that makes you the rude self-centered one. Not me.
But sir my Ipod was on low volume. Officer: Sure it was. I’m sorry but you have no defense. God forbid somebody or something makes contact with you while you’re out there riding or running but you make the call.

ParticipantWhen law enforcement are called to investigate a collision involving individuals on bikes, they will probably look for some kind of audio device with headphones/ear buds on the riders that were involved just to find the blame and to wrap things up quickly. Lucky for me, they won’t find such device.

ParticipantI work in a noisy environment but I don’t normally wear ear buds to cancel out the noise but once I see my boss, I put on my Snap-on BS protectors (same kind what you’ll see in a shooting range) I’m just sayin…

ParticipantPersonally I think putting earbuds/head phones on while riding/running is not a good thing. Naturally you will hear the wind swooshing around your ears while riding. Put music or some kind of audio output on top of that. You guys know where I’m going with this. Imagine you’re riding and your favorite jam comes on…so you’ll probably going to turn it up more and do a karaoke while you’re riding. Then BAM!!! Lights out. People miss their stop while riding the train because they didn’t hear. Just a friendly advise that benefits us all.

ParticipantPerhaps yellow signs along the bike trails should indicate or say “Please do not obstruct your hearing capability by listening to some BS” or “Please listen for ON YOUR LEFT”.

ParticipantAbundant info already in here. Invest in good, rugged tires. Specialized Armadillo Elite’s does it for me. Getting a puncture in a dark, cold trail isn’t fun. Start with the tires.

ParticipantHi Ann,
I to do the Wakefield Group ride in the summer. Keep doing the ride once it starts after the time change. I have no negative feedback about that ride. All the riders are respectful and will assist you come across a problem. It’s all good.

ParticipantNo matter how you slice it, drivetrain cleaning is and will be a dirty job. If you don’t want to get your hands and nails dirty, use nitrile or latex gloves or take the bike to your LBS for chain cleaning. Spray Nine works well in cleaning your drivetrain. Velcro strap the rear brake lever tight so that the bike doesn’t roll back and forth while your’re cleaning it. That’s the “ghetto” way but it works.
