REI has a 70% off sale on a few things…including a Cateye Nano linght (250 lumen) for $26…more than half off of what it’s going for on amazon.

It’s no big deal…I’ve picked up nastier scratches than that while bounding through baby heads without negative impact on ability to brake or anything else. If it feels rough to the touch, take some emory cloth and smooth it out for the (long term) sake of your brakes.

I’ve got one that looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C2MHNJK

I picked it up in 2013 and it has been on my bars ever since, through rain, shine, and snow. Shoe Goo was used to semi-waterproof the battery.

#1 is certainly poison ivy…and the tree that recently fell there was wrapped in vines of it…so the sawdust chips and other debris could have transferred it (depending on your sensitivity).

Amazon has some good prices on Primal Wear jerseys and shorts…both men’s and women’s. Prices range from ~$14-30 on the lower end. Sizes and patterns are limited…if you change the search to 50% off there’s a bit better selection.

    Hopefully this link works.

I’ve beaten up on their jerseys pretty well and other than a little staining from my tendency to have peanut M&Ms loose in my jersey pocket (which is really my fault) it has performed admirably.

I’d never heard of pawpaws before. Did a little internet research and came up with this gem of an article about them:

Is it possible to pick some around here in the wild or are they too high up to reach w/o a ladder?

It’s very possible to pick them around here in the wild when they’re in season. Just give the tree a little shake!

Isn’t the MVT federal property? I have only seen Park Police on that stretch (on motorcycles).

It is Park Service land that is mostly in VA.

Entirely within VA? If so, a handgun with a CHL is an option. Don’t even think about it in DC or MD. As others have said, you’ll want to get some training. I’ve known a few people who carry on the bike, most are doing some sort of fanny pack holster. Handguns oriented towards concealed carry are quite small these days. You’ll not only want to spend some time training with it, but also read up on the laws and case laws around the use of lethal force in self defense. Whatever your feelings on the NRA, their training arm is excellent and they offer several classes oriented to gun safety and self defense.

Also good to keep in mind that the section of the Mt Vernon Trail between the 14th street bridge and 66 is part of DC.

Is that a SS? Looks geared.

It is geared…my preference would be for a single speed!

I’m pretty happy with a rigid SS & carbon fork…I don’t think the lateral rigidity would be that killer, unless you were hitting big stuff with it. But then again, that kind of stuff would suck to hit with a SID too.

To add on to what Emm suggested: If you’re looking at Phoenix and don’t mind getting a little weird you can grab a bmx seatpost with a clamp and then shim it up to 24mm.

As others have stated, the hitch rack is money. I have a truck with a rack on the shell, but that is better used for canoes and kayaks while the bikes hang off the back. The Thule I use is a rack type (not a platform) which allows me to lower the rack down with both bikes still loaded and open the tailgate.

@kwarkentien – Had not considered it… I thought it could not mount panniers, but I see that it can. What model is yours, if I may ask?

    Is that Di2?

It’s not technically out yet, but the Cannondale Slate has me intrigued.

That’s what I suspected. I had plans to do that this summer with a buddy, although my thought was to drive to Cumberland and rent there. What rental agency did you use?

It was either Budget or Avis. Started at DCA…the drop was only a couple blocks from the convergence of the Allegheny and Monongahela.
