Anyone have an update after the rain and warm weather this weekend? Is Custis now mostly clear for tomorrow morning’s commute, or still icy?

Custis was generally OK Sunday morning, and W&OD was good from the beginning out to Lee Hwy/EFC, then sketchy in sections thereafter. Hopefully the warm weather the remainder of yesterday brought additional melting.

Good news.. But the line: “They will allow a few days after the snowfall to provide skiers or snowshoe users time to use the trail.” usually means that the trail is by then a sheet of ice, and the snowblower is about worthless. Getting the bulk of the mess helps I guess though, and it’s better than nothing.

The W&OD being overseen by the NVRPA really presents a barrier to any overall grand plan to increase cycling as a viable means of daily transportation. As it stands now, it’s more of a merit badge for Arlington (Car Free Diet, etc.) than anything sustainable that they commit to supporting year round.

Can you imagine if after a snow, Arlington said that they would refrain from plowing Barton Street below Clarendon Blvd, so that kids could sled on it for a few days?

First post here. I do the reverse commute from Courthouse to McLean.
I take the streets to the Custis at Glebe and Washington, then hope on the W&OD to Gallows and up into Tysons.

Been commuting by bike for 4 years, averaging about 4 days a week.
