I, too, have felt your pain of losing a taillight along the MVT (also lost a handlebar light that just plain shattered as it hit the ground).

A couple of weeks ago my tail light fell off while i was riding on the Custis trail. I turned back to get it and found another tail light along side it! made my day.

I’m Mike Roy. My username relates to the old Miko Glaces ice cream company that sponsored the former pro team shown on my jersey in this pic (with my son and sometime stoker-okay, you can’t really make out the Miko on the arm but almost …):

You might see me at coffee meet up on Friday mornings, commuting on weekdays, or on a weekend ride, usually on my old Specialized Allez comp but sometime on a C’dale cross bike or occasionally with my son on our Bike Friday Family tandem.

I had the thumb lever on my Ergos go a couple of years ago and was told that the local expert for Campy stuff is Pinky at Revolution in Georgetown. The advice I received was to just go with the brifters (and not the whole bike) so they would charge less.
I ended up not going in the end, but I trusted the source of the recommendation so that’s my suggestion.

Thanks Chris. I may call there when they open at 11 and see what they say. I just noticed that the Bicycle pro Shop right next door to revolution says right on first page of its website that it fixes everything from whatever to ergo levers, so seems they advertise just the service i need and may try them.

I second the idea. not for the faint of heart, but not bad. I generally prefer M St, unless I’m feeling brave. and/or running late.

I commute in to town by Key Bridge and ride to L Street every day. Have for many years. For a period of a couple of months years ago I used the Whitehurst Freeway in each direction. I stopped for two reasons. One, I was worried about safety. Cars are really going fast. Two, lots of debris. I stopped after I had to change my second or third flat in the breakdown lane during rush hour.

I still ride in that way (M then Pennsylvania then L St.) every morning. Evenings, at least during daylight savings when it isn’t raining, I take K St. to the Capital Crescent Trail to the Canal path and then go over Chain Bridge. Much nicer route, and avoids the Georgetown evening congestion.

Just wanted to remind you that I did call 911, and report your harassment, making sure to mention to the operator that you said you were in the employ of the police department. You coarse language and volume did nothing to convince me you actually knew the rules of the road, and your admonition for me to Stay On The Sidewalk(tm) was not unexpected. Thanks for being my first, I’ll always remember you.

I am curious. What did the cops do if anything when you reported it? Forgive me if you’ve posted on this. I haven’t seen it.

Climbing S Walter Reed Dr from S 4 Mile Run Dr near Shirlington is 115 feet of elevation gain in 1160 feet of distance. That compares with climbing 203 ft in 1280 feet from Chain Bridge.

Taking Wilson Blvd from N Lynn St to Queen St is a half mile with a good climb at the start, leveling off, then climbing again from Rhodes.

Actually, if you just go wandering around the hills between Military and N Glebe by Marymount, or in the Dominion Hills/Madison Manor neighborhoods you’ll get lots of short, steep hill repeats in.

Consularrider – how do you know the elevation from Chain Bridge? Is that up 41st Street? I am asking because I am considering a very hilly out of state ride (some 15% grades) and i am trying to compare to some reference point I am familiar with, like 41st Street.
