ParticipantBikeArlingtonForum has always been at war with WashingtonAreaBikeForum.

ParticipantThe difference, of course, being that thousands of people use the trail.
The Arlington DES FB chat has inspired an update of this 2 year old Clarendon Cycles piece. I’m generally a fan of how DES handles things, but they failed on lots of levels with this.

ParticipantGlad I posted that, then! WABA does quite a bit of work in MoCo, and is MoCo is ably represented on our board by a number of MoCo residents. You might also find the document we debuted at the Regional Call to Action Summit worth a read. As a WABA member, you should be getting MoCo-specific action alerts when issues needing a bit of public support arise. Happy to chat more about this.

ParticipantJust a small point of order, FWIW – Bike Maryland is a statewide org, with something of a focus on the Baltimore area. I suppose the Virginia Bike Federation is similar, with its gravity coming from Richmond (though it doesn’t host events/have staff like Bike Maryland does). WABA covers the entirety of our region (i.e., DC proper, Montgomery and Prince Georges counties, Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, and Fairfax (in partnership with FABB)). Someone pray for the poor souls in Prince William County, please

ParticipantIs this heavy on tables/illustrations, or is it Kindle/ebook-able?

ParticipantIt’s a good idea, though I wonder if it can really be connected to the existing CaBi infrastructure. Perhaps better to plant the seed in Tysons or Reston and see if it can grow from there. It would require a firm hand, I think. As we’ve seen even in this forum, people don’t quite understand the importance of the network effect on the success of bike sharing, and end up demanding stations in front of their houses (regardless of whether it fits into the topology).

Note that Trail’s End Cycling in Purcellville is a dealer
Very smart. You ride out, put them on, and by the time you get home you’ll have lost all your studs and need a new pair.

But was it wearing a helmet?

ParticipantSide note: It’s my understanding that, in Virginia, points are not to be assessed against your driver’s license for infractions committed on a bike. I got this from a source who always knows what he’s talking about, but we’re having a hard time documenting the basis for it. It’s been added to my “to do” list. In the meantime, if you get nailed for something that could involved points in Virginia, make sure you tell the Court Clerk to note that it was committed while on a bike (apparently there’s a field in the system for exactly that).

ParticipantJust you wait til you see Rule 34.

ParticipantDamnit! I forgot that was this weekend.

spending the proceeds from selling my motorcycle on a nice road bike
Uh oh. I’ve got a motorcycle sitting out back, and, well it’s mostly sat out back. Fun to take out from time to time. But I’d never really looked at it as another bike. Might be time to sell . . .

ParticipantI love it when Dirt just saves everyone else the time of posting an answer. My experience matches his (except I wasn’t smart enough to find 100 for $13!). All I really have to add is that if your blinkies get a good soaking, it’s probably a good idea to shake ’em out. I had a few end up with rusted/intermittent contacts when I let them sit after an underwater ride (easily cleaned up, though).

He was also wearing a TT aero helmet, which I thought a little strange.
Sounds like Tim just forgot to charge his light battery, again.
More seriously, if the guy was in earshot, I’d say something about almost not seeing him. I think it has – at best – a 50% chance of being well-received (figuring in that it’s coming from a driver, probably causes embarrassment, etc.). I wouldn’t chase him down to say anything.

I rode to my polling place first thing this morning, but I forgot to Strava it. So basically I voted for nothing.
Tim – we used to vote at Central Library. Lines snaking through the parking lot, in 2000. Now we’re fancy.

ParticipantSounds like the perfect day for a bike ride.
