#FSwormholefail – Safety Notice
Just a reminder that not all wormholes are stable. Please retreat if you sense fluctuations outside of normal variance, especially if there is a risk of collapse due to its own gravitational pull

#FSwormole – Fills Filene Wormhole — Most have probably traversed this wormhole on foot, on your way from the outer parking lot (west side of Trap Road) to access Wolf Trap’s Filene Center to catch your favorite musical acts and performances.

Continue up the hill on the broad paved path alongside Trap Road in the direction of the Barns and you will experience the nirvana of the Wolf Trap bridge which crosses over the Dulles Toll Road. Go past the Barns on the path, then you can head back towards Tyons through the Ash Grove Wormhole Complex or the Vesper Street Trail, or head towards Meadowlark Gardens and drop down to the W&OD via Meadowlark Road and the Meadowlark Connector.

I went through 20 pages of this thread and was surprised not to find any mention of this I-am-sure-everyone-rode-through wormhole connecting Mount Vernon Trail and good old Crystal City. Well, here it is.
This is an example of a bike/infrastructure/path that might be know to all or not to a few, that once explored it really opens up your travel experiences. I know where it is and how I miss the call of the Friday post works sounds of Beers, music and SteveOG universal musings and pithiness control. Could you share with others where it is, how useful it is(possibly) and give it a name?
Ride on Serdar! Keep the WHoles coming.

Not for points, but fun to share.
Here’s an interesting REAL wormhole. These rocks are on the grounds at USGS. There are no placards to describe the processes, time frame, etc. Fortunately, my son is a geologist so I took a photo today and sent it to him. He responded thusly:
“Probably made by some kind of ancient burrowing creature. Over time the burrows were filled with a softer or weaker sediment. Eventually the entire thing turned to rock, and when it came to the surface, erosion took away the weaker parts. Possibly made by some kind of arthropod or squid-type organism. It’s called bioturbation.”
So not exactly worms, but absent USGS putting out any information on it, I’m going to refer to this as “Wormholes revealed”. So there.

OHHH MY. There is a very strong gravitational pull with this one…. one must investigate!.
Well played! +1POINT.( Just keep adding your extra points till the end)

This wormhole allows you to go under Reston Parkway east/west. Although it’s well known by people who have been here a while, the new developments have added sidewalks/paths to their frontage on Reston Parkway to get people to the crosswalks (yes, good idea). But it means that some of them will never discover this beauty which avoids that whole “do they see me in the crosswalk and will they stop” issue.
It comes out at The Container Store, so it shall now be called the “Contain THIS!” Wormhole.

KBKVA! Any WH that is an actually a hole just bores its self into my heart. New developments and their shinny sidewalks….. phhh we want holes!
Well played.

This wormhole at the bottom of Haycock Road and Orland Street provides passage from Westmoreland Street to the Freedom Lane and Powhatan Street neighborhoods and beyond into Franklin Park.
There are four entrances/exits so some might call it the Orland Street Complex (eh, Boomer?). Or because of its connection to Westmoreland Street and its fine bike lane: the (westm)Orland Street Complex

ParticipantWOW REPORT IS BACK
Week of 1.11-17Well it’s been over a week and I have been WormHoling Wicked Hard. As Boomer pointed it out, he helped me with one of the Biggest Wormholes you can hyperspace yourself through and I gone and passed from the single life to the married life. Life vitals are great, ring finger vitals are still a bit off as its adjusting to the metal circumference that envelops it.
NOW BACK TO THE WOW
On the top list of quick ass features — WE GOT A MAP — Google Map (#Freezing Saddles WormHoles)
bigredboiler came through and created the feature for us. It’s up to all of us to use it for our WormHoling community (not required for WH points), a neat way to share the knowledge and helps us navigate the CycleHyperspace.
Kbikeva presented the “Guns & NoRoads” out of RT50 and Jermantown Rd to Waples Mill. Solid Sneaky WormHole. Solid name, description, path but the kickass name MOOREBETTER WH makes the list. Wait… you get to ride a pre-Colonial road! So you actually get to travel back in time? And its an unstable WormHole — Park View High School has a gate that’s sometimes closed and locked closing your path. I like to gamble with my WormHoles! Even our intrepid explored JoshA who’s legs are strong but his arms not to his name sake, shed some bled in this WH. (true story)
ALL HAIL THE UBER huberWW the Uber rookie of wormhole explorations. 9 WormHole discoveries in an urban Jugle….!!!!
WOW – just the whole combo might warrant the WOW report! You can live 1923213 lifetimes in these wormholes!SteveOG comes through, after his 1st to video technology, for a reprieve of his 395 dash – Universe’s Most Inadvisable Wormhole – but this time without endangering any cars in the process. Well played. Added bonus – MUD. What’s a true WormHole without fear, blood or mud?
But perhaps the most useful of his WHs could be (He didn’t name it so I will) The VolleyExpress which takes you out of the MVT and right into Crystal City without having to ride much further ahead.
What can I say about Boomer? His whole WormHole strategy is akin to his strategy: sock&awe for another PP.
Plethora of possibilites of paths to be paved, passed and permanently engrained in your travel explorations.
I think he was trying to win me over with his TACO WormHole, (Even before you can say Taco, I am already there, Why do you think I married a Mexican?)
BUT his description of the #Quantum Drive Orbital Wormhole man… on point, and again the name it self makes me want to ride it, with the added benefit of reduction road kill probability and increasing art encounters. I am in.******** WOW **********
It had to go to: bikesnick ‘s E/G/sCapitol parking lot SW (3-way wormhole under 695/395)Indeed a reprieve from last year (but all WormHoles are Open for explorations).
Just a level 5***** WormHole, Indeed a +5 PointWormHole. I am not going to even say more about it. If you explore it and give us a description, you still get some extra points.
RIDE ON!

Does anyone have a good route for the Maryland/DC side of the stones? I’m looking for something fairly current. I’m happy to share my route for the SW and NW sections (although you can’t see the NW stones in VA as they’re in the back of private yards for the most part), but the route can show you how to get as close as possible.
Here you go.

These wormholes/cut throughs/bike infrastructure provide reduced traffic options to get to and across Route 123 from Magarity Road

No Mo Ol’ Meadow – Kennedy Drive from Magarity to the top of Old Meadow, which has a new on-street bike lane down to McLean Metro Station. Kennedy Drive is within the Dolley Madison Apartments complex; a lift gate is usually down to prevent cars from using this cut through, but a bike can ride past without dismounting. (Despite the pastoral name, no meadow exists on Old Meadow any longer.)

Scotts Run Trail — I would not term this brand-new multi-use trail a “wormhole” per se, but it is worth checking out for the fun serpentine section going up/down the hill. This trail runs from Magarity Road, access alongside Westgate Elementary, down to Old Chain Bridge Road close to the Kiss & Ride at McLean Metro. Check it out!
Mitre Cut (Through) – Colshire Drive within the Mitre Corp campus is a good cut through from behind the Anderson Road Safeway (and Lost Dog Café). From traffic circle a new bike lane goes down to McLean Metro and Route 123. Along the way, you will travel through the intersection of Old Chain Bridge Road which is the end of the Construction Wormhole. Travel west on Old Chain Bridge across bridge to access the lower terminus of the Scott’s Run Trail.

Construction Wormhole – see post # 76 — Old Chain Bridge closure. On the other side of the parking lot and jersey barriers, there’s a swell bike lane with no vehicles.
Cross Route 123 to get to the new Wegmans in the Capital One complex or ride on, up and over the Beltway into Tysons itself, on the new bike lane on Scotts Crossing. View looking across Route 123/Dolley Madison up Scott’s Crossing. A pretty decent climb up and over the Beltway to Jones Branch!

I am still tabulating extra points like a pinball machine that lost its tilt function, but you are getting extra points some for sure for Beating Boomer to the punch. (That’s his wood) You went there and claimed it. Well played. +1 POINT just for that.10 Points for now, + more to be warranted during the WOW report (Oh yeah these make the list).

#FSWORMHOLE MOOREBETTER
This is in Loudoun County and is another way to get back from the area near Dulles Town Center to Sterling and then to Herndon. Unlike the Choolaah Connection Wormhole which is good but through areas with heavy traffic, this one goes through a lovely, bucolic park that is worth exploring off road as well. (In fact, the remainder of Vestals Gap road, a pre-Colonial road, is in this park). That is why I’ve called it “MooreBetter”.
