They finished up a couple months ago. It was a real nightmare for a while while they were repaving and laying pipe in front of the poop factory.

You can also try going to a local bike coop like phoenix or velocity or smaller bike shop and ask an experienced person there how your bike fit looks, they would probably point you in the right direction for free.
It sounds to me like your saddle height is a bit off.

I cant figure out how to join a freezing saddles team for this year and keep getting lost in old threads – guessing that’s because it hasn’t been organized yet?

    Food for thought:

    1) Drop to a 7′ parking lane, 10′ travel lanes, 10′ turning lane, 11′ transit lane and BAM there’s 5′ for a Northbound bike lane.

    2) If Crystal Drive can do without that curb lane during both rush hours, why does it need it back the rest of the time? Why not 24hr bus/bike lanes? Then at least cyclists only have to mix with buses and not full-on car traffic.

When I first saw this graphic I thought it was just a bunch of people dropped down into the bottom of an earthen pit ala NES era raiders of the lost arc and I thought…yeah that seems about right.

    You mean this thing? https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8576558,-77.0648702,3a,75y,5.69h,80.86t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s2KYASoVr29ipEuFK7IbE6A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en

    Yeah you got it!
then you can turn around and ride up the secret aborted section of S Lynn street (the path going up behind the flower pots and bushes is actually a somewhat paved street, often lined with raccoon catching cages)
    https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8543411,-77.0666408,3a,75y,182.81h,71.64t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sasgZx6cZhLP4E88rKT9W1Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

and then the adventurous rider can take the overgrown, narrow, and incredibly steep path down arlington ridge (I would never recommend anyone to actually ride on Arlington Ridge Road) through Oakcrest Park to somewhat creatively and dangerously reconnect with the 4MR trail

I don’t want to be unfair to HTO because it is a local business and I might just be unlucky, but I’ve had a pretty frustrating experience as a customer of their Pentagon Row store. I bought a scott sub30 from them last May and since then pretty much every component of the bike has failed or needed to be replaced because it wound up being uncomfortable for anything beyond a 5 mile ride. I’ve taken it in for the “free member tune up” probably over 15 times in the past year for various problems and several times after I got my bike back it seemed like either nothing was done or something even got worse. I’ve also walked out with a bill several times after the free tune up. The latest debacle has been a perpetually squealing hydraulic disc brake system, which I have spent many hours myself trying to fix on top of 3 attempts by their mechs. I pointed out this last time after their replacing the pads twice and some sleuthing on my own that it seems like the disc brake fluid itself is leaking out and contaminating the brake pads, and that they should fix it on their own dime. I got the bike back yesterday and they charged me $40 more dollars for parts and labour and did they fix the actual problem? No. So now the brakes are still failing, the bike shop’s last day is tomorrow and I am left with a lemon bike, no chance of getting sometimes useful tune ups, and a big problem that I don’t feel confident I can fix on my own.

I doubt that the stupidly high price of bike gear itself is their problem, but when on top of their sales and discounts for members, bike clothes and other nonsense still seemed $50-$100 overpriced, I never wound up buying anything from them.

Still sad to see the only bike shop convenient to me is going, no matter how bad it was. I would like to be a customer of Papillion or one of the bigger indy stores, but getting to there from my neighborhood is a nightmare because of the highway systems around here.

Here’s the best one we’ve come up with so far: The house that has thick groves of bamboo growing on either side of it, with a purple sign out front that says, “Welcome to Alligator Park. Alligator View Hours”

This guy lives a block or two from my place, he’s really nice. You have to pay attention to notice it, but the alligator is there in the weeds. He’s made out of that corrugated black plastic lawn runoff tubing and some tennis balls.

If you’re in the neighborhood there’s a house with a weird sculpture in the front lawn that kind of looks like a 6′ Conch shell made out of steel and… mirrors? I don’t know why you would put that on your front lawn but to each his castle. It’s between south joyce and kent on 17th or 18th st s. I’ll just go outside and check this and will probably edit this post later after I do my run.

I realize this isn’t quite in the right county but I’ve always hoped someone would shut it down for a few hours so I could figure out how to do some laps.

Speaking of more no-bikes-allowed areas, the Army Navy Country Club hill is fun, and I’ve also always wanted to bike around the various loops inside Arlington Cemetery. Could that be made possible by a group/event?’

Oh and this is probably pretty obvious to a lot of people here but the little used section of the 4 mile run trail that starts on the south side of Columbia Pike and crosses the river several times on the way up to Glencarlyn is one of the most beautiful and most fun paved riding available in the area. I wish more trails were designed like this. It’s like a roller coaster for your bike. The goofy under-bridge crossings at S George Mason drive is a sight to see as well.
