Bumpity bump bump. There’s about 22 folks signed up currently and including several members of the forum. Thank you to everyone who has signed up. The shoreline is pretty trash filled and we could use lots more volunteers to help get our trail looking pretty again.

It’s going to be really cold. Do we need to bring boots or can we just walk on the ice? Seriously, are we going to be wading in to get to the trash?

I’ve experienced the same issue after a crash. I crashed this summer on a wet spot and hurt my knee pretty bad and I’ve felt fear ever since when I take a corner that’s wet. I hope you can make it out in the snow soon.
I think EVERYONE has gone down on the Trollheim corner. I am cautious every time I go through when it is wet and it has been 8 years since I went horizontal there. It is Nature’s way of keeping us alive.

Nice to meet you all for shoveling today! And many thanks for the kind supply of water from at least 2 folks… dunno how I forgot to bring some!
Beautiful day for working in the sun, and boy, we did a damned good job, in my view! I think I should have probably stopped an hour sooner, and can’t imagine how sore I’ll likely be tomorrow… it was quite a workout, and no amount of miles biked in 2018 probably prepared me for that! (Who said something about all the cyclists and their noodle arms not equipped for shoveling? Hehehe!)
Now… not being in Frozen Saddles this year, do I get to “donate” any pointless prize points I may have earned today to a lucky fellow shoveler??Good to meet you too and yeah. I think a bath and bourbon are in order tonight. Hope I can get up tomorrow for Crystal City Coffee Club and more shoveling.

That sidewalk on rt1 and ramp down to the hairpin was cleared when I passed it an hour ago, made me happy.
Uless I was just hallucinating, also possible.
Well, there were a few gremlins out shoveling snow today. That ramp photo was from around 12:45pm today.

ParticipantWhile Alexandria cleared the sidewalk on the Rt. 1 bridge, the ramp down from RT1 was not cleared. The zig-zag trail was not cleared.

ParticipantI took the Mt. Vernon Trail to Josephine’s Shovel Fest on the Pugsley with studded 4.0 tires. The trail is not in good condition. There was one skinny tire track I followed, but it was mostly semi-frozen footprints. My hat is off to whoever laid down those tracks.
Arlington cleared the 4MR trail up to the MVT, made a little loop and then went home. Alexandria cleared the Wayne F. Anderson trail and went across the Rt. 1 bridge before stopping. The ramp down the Arlington side from the Rt. 1 bridge was not cleared. I remember when Arlington once ran their equipment up that ramp. Why did that stop?
I am so glad I am no longer commuting on the MVT.

…Sorry for the sideways pictures–the forum is rotating my images for some reason. …
I’ve found the Forum rotates portrait mode images to landscape. Rotating the original before uploading doesn’t help. Some nefarious scheme to get us to snap photos in landscape only?

Awesome, thanks! Look for yellow shovels and bright purple signs saying Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail. My plan is to start at the wooden bridge connecting the Pentagon and the LBJ Grove, then move east and south toward the MVT. Our exact location will depend on what (if anything) NPS is able to clear before 1:00 p.m. NPS announced last week that they’d be clearing sidewalks in the D.C. area despite the government shutdown, but I don’t know whether that includes the trails on the LBJ Grove –> Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial –> Humpback Bridge route. If it doesn’t, then we’ll try to clear that section first. If it does, then we’ll move south and tackle the area near and under the 14th Street Bridge.
I did see the trail in the Grove had been prepped with pickle juice. That should make our shoveling there easier.

Josephine is on the board with five points! An additional point has been awarded for sharing trail cleanup pro tips. Another point has been awarded for surviving the thorn bushes. 7 points total.

This point system appears to be totally arbitrary. 👍

ParticipantCruisin’ Del Ray. I almost hate to see the snow plows come through.

Reported it. Had to get the app reloaded on the new phone and then figure out what the heck my password was.
Today, The large sheet of Plexiglass had been removed from the bike lane, but there are fairly large shards of the stuff spread starting close to the S. Glebe/Potomac Ave intersection and extending for about 100 meters. They need a street sweeper to make a pass to get it all. I’ll see if I can submit a report as well and with photos.

ParticipantSo where are our other 3 team members? Four years ago was my first Freezing Saddles and somehow I ended up being a team captain. Thank goodness for the support I had from Wheels & Wings. The hardest captain task was tracking down wayward team members. Good luck Andy.

ParticipantAnd then this one seems entirely appropriate.
KWL
ParticipantHow about this for a team image?
