One thing WMATA should look into if making the current cars more bike friendly. Often times, there isn’t even anywhere to put a bike…
It can be done. http://www.trimet.org/howtoride/bikes/bikesonmax.htm

You: Definitely-looking-inexperienced cyclist flying around on the outside (your left, my right) of the concrete curve headed from the MVT to 4MR
Me: Approaching from 4MR about 20 feet from the bottom of that curve.Added to riding too fast, inattention and general foolishness is that this is a decreasing radius coming down from the MVT, which seems to catch a lot of people out.

Me: The tool who made a poor pass selection at the northern end of Reagan Airport right before Gravely Point.
You: Cyclist coming the other way who rightfully said something, although I couldn’t understand what.So to you I say, sorry.
I always worry I’ll end up on the wrong end of a “Missed Connection”. So far either the other person doesn’t frequent here or is too kind to call me out.

Although some call me crazy, when I worked in DC I took the Whitehurst off the Key Bridge (only inbound; do not ride the Whitehurst outbound).
That was you? I often did call you crazy when I saw you taking the ramp off of Key Bridge.

I must admit that the images are inaccurate. I have never seen an 80-yr-old on a unicycle.
And where are the beard and pipe for the ‘bent rider?

ParticipantLooks like I’m going to need more sunscreen.

ParticipantThey should open the gates. I could ride through that.

Dunno which M.E. Swing’s you are referring to, but I’ve seen some pretty fine ones at the Monroe Street location. Just have to navigate around the strollers and dogs.

This is the main reason I really dislike the MVT heading from Gravelly southbound, there are too many people trying to pass when they really can’t see the oncoming traffic.
I’m also really getting tired of the S Glebe/Rte 1 intersection part of the 4MRT detour. Is there some reason the cars turning right from S Glebe to head south on Rte 1 can’t wait until they have a green light? They keep trying to run over the cyclists who are making a legal left turn with the green arrow who are trying to get to either the sidewalk curb cut (which is incorrectly placed) or to the Porche dealer driveway to continue west.
Surprisingly, the Rt 1 crossing at EAST Glebe has shown to me some very considerate drivers. I had expected problems with the left turners, but no. Everyone seems so polite, I’m questioning reality. That said, I cannot wait for the trail to open again. No Rt 1 crossing is the best.

ParticipantMe: Coming off of Key Bridge turning left onto the MVT at the Intersection of Doom.
You: Two Elite-type riders queued up single file for the stop light ‘way back on the asphalt part of the trail (no shoaling here). Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Turned onto Whitehurst Freeway from Key Br without even looking first? ✔
First and second can vary. Third and fourth happen way too often. I’ve been known to shout “USE YOUR DAMN TURN SIGNAL” while making arm gestures. Not my finest moments.

ParticipantMy theory is it’s some poor sap with OCD who works at National Airport and lives in D.C. Walking home and compulsively tearing and discarding paper. The scraps start at National and end (on the MVT anyway) at the ramp to the 14th Street Bridge. It’s a whole lot more benign than the tacks spread all over the same section a few years ago.

ParticipantYou: Young lady on the MVT riding a red bike with moustache bars.
Me: Not a creepy old guy ogling you, but a creepy old guy ogling your pristine red 1993 Bridgestone XO-3. Do you know what you have? -
