ParticipantN=8 Dave’s Red Bike
12/13/16
I call my bikes by their model names mostly — the Viaje, liscio, el mar etc. Dave, not so much. He has the “red” bike and the “black” bike. I considered it progress when he started calling his new mountain bike the mountain bike and not the “silver” bike.
Also, it didn’t feel too bad out there until I turned into the wind!

Now it’s game on! Here’s the corroborating evidence:

This was my first time on a Volagi, and probably 3rd time on a carbon frame – this thing was really smooth! I have (what is listed as) 28mm/32mm F/R tires on my RXS right now but this actually felt smoother. I also didn’t mind the 38mm bars at all after riding 42mm, wasn’t twitchy at all. Also my first time trying Bar Mitts as opposed to Moose Mitts (I had to swap to my less bulky gloves to fit my hands in).
This is really fueling my desire to get a nice riding carbon frame with disc brakes…
Glad you liked it! The barmits are definitely tight over the hydro-disc brakes which are taller as you know. I have a lot more room in them when they are on the Viaje with mechanical discs. The tires I have on there are Schwalbe Durano 28s on alloy rims. Just image if they were carbon …..

Took the opportunity to trade bikes with Will on the way back from FCCII. Love the RSX. The fit was just about perfect with no adjustments. The belt drive was super quiet. So light. This would be a lovely n+1!Anyone wanna meet at Haines next week for a little bike swapping?

Heh as soon as we parted this morning I realized I failed to mention, once again, how much I love that bike. CX single speed is definitely #1 on my list for next bike.
Ha! Don’t let dcv hear you say that ….

2/8/2016dcv is one of the best sources for n+1 that I know. A casual discussion at coffee one morning last fall about needing n+1 resulted in Vin finding me this within hours. I haven’t ridden it in awhile and almost forgot how fun it is. But no, I still don’t want to race Singlespeed cx.

Jamestown Island loopI have taken hundreds of versions of this same photo — bike on Jamestown bridge. Regardless of ride, season or weather it is one of my favorite places on earth.

Oh how I have missed going anything over 10 mph and riding anything that weighs less than 30 lbs! The Viaje felt down right zippy today as Pete and I rode a few recon laps around Navy Federal. The 45North Xerxes in the 120 TPI are amazingly light You almost forget you are on studs — right up until you need them! Spendy? Yes. Worth i t? Absolutely!

Bikeshare is a wonderful invention. My 2.4 mile spin was a nice break from the drudgery of the office. I only wish someone would make a portable coffee holder that you could attach. Riding the CABI through the already bad DC roads made worse by ice, snow and slush was a challenge.

ParticipantWhy hasn’t anyone put up a morning report?? I need to know exactly how bad and where the ice is. People, you are falling down (I hope not literally) on the job here!

1/27/2016Seemed like overkill on the Custis tonight on the way home. But it has proven to be the perfect choice these past few days and likely will be again tomorrow morning when all that melt turns to ice. And to think I had been considering selling this bike. Maybe not ….

Anyone up for a mid-winter cycling break in Crete? I’m considering heading for Agia Galini the last week of February to get in my February and March century rides.
Tease. So wish I could join you. Please take lots of pictures of sun and sand and blue waters and clear roads and ….. Oh never mind. That would just be torturous!

Nah–they tried but didn’t make it. Got picked up in Harper’s ferry maybe? Bilsko was along for the ride too, right? Something about Pete slipping and hurting his knee right beforehand too? Anyone else remember details?
It was Pete, Bilsko and Stuart. Pete wrecked his knee the day before. To make it even harder he and Bilsko decided to ride fixie. Pete pulled out near Cumberland, which is when Tina and Lydia joined. Bilsko made it a bit further. Stuart made the whole thing in just over 24 hours.
I think Bilsko should try again. Ideally before March 20th!
