3/1/21 – Pig or BBQ Joint
National Pig Day has been celebrated on March 1 since 1972, when it was started by two sisters, one of who said the purpose of the day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place” as one of the most intelligent domesticated animals: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Pig_Day
On your ride, find a pig, whether it be the word or a likeness …orrrr… you can go the opposite way and find a BBQ joint that serves pork (preferably one you’d recommend). This brings up one thing that I always thought was funny: why do some restaurants have a cheery icon of the animal you are about to eat (e.g. Hot N Juicy or Pollo Campero)? Have those animals not watched Soylent Green or Cloud Atlas? :confused:
Happy hunting!

3/1/21 – Pig or BBQ Joint
Picture of a pig in the sign for Dave’s Famous BBQ, located in the shopping center at the intersection of Hunter Mill Rd and 123 in Oakton. Smelled delicious but this vegan was not tempted to the grab some bbq to go. I was having tires installed on my car in Vienna (at C&C, they are THE. BEST. independent automotive maintenance place in NVA, btw) so took a little ride while the work was being done. Headed south, weaving through the neighborhoods east and west of busy 123 until I got to Dave’s in Oakton.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2/28/21 – the word “Mattress” on a sign
In 2011, someone (seriously?!!?) created National Public Sleeping Day, which is celebrated every February 28. Let’s celebrate by going for a ride and seeking the word “mattress”. (This one’s more goofy than usual, I know
)
Happy hunting!
If you haven’t seen the supremely silly but extremely talented biker Sam Pilgrim, well, watch him get rad on a headboard bike:

2/26/21 – Acronym or Initialism (3 letters or more)
On February 26, 1935, Watson-Watt demonstrates the feasibility of RADAR – RAdio Detection And Ranging – to the British Air Ministry. This got me to thinking that there are acronyms everywhere, especially when you count hidden ones.
On your ride, find an acronym or initialism, whether it be standalone or within other words. Here’s a list of some examples: https://abbreviations.yourdictionary.com/articles/common-accronyms.html
Two things for this hunt:
- It has to be 3 letters or more
- You have to let us know what your acronym/initialism is and spell it out
Happy hunting!

NCO = non-commissioned officer
I thought this was going to be a tough one, but lots of options discovered on my ride today: “wks” in a “Seahawks Dr” street sign, “ent” in multiple signs for various “centers,” and “ATT” in Black Lives Matter” signs. This was the first one I saw so decided to go with it.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is at the end of the drive for a newly constructed house that doesn’t appear to be occupied yet. The mailbox itself is still wrapped I. A protective coating. The house number is stamped out of the side of the mailbox.

2/25/21 – Duck (likeness of animal or the word)
On February 25, 1970, “Rubber Duckie” premiered on Sesame Street when Ernie sang the song while taking a bath. Fun fact:
“The segment was so popular that the song was issued as a single with the show’s theme song as the flip side. In September, it peaked at #16 on the Hot 100, and on November 16, it once again appeared on Sesame Street, this time in a Season 2 segment again with Ernie performing the song.”On your ride, capture a likeness of a duck, whether it be an actual duck, an image, or made of rubber. Caveat is that it can’t be your own duck.
Happy hunting!

2/24/21 – “Charles and Diana” Subanagram Word (5 letters or more)
Prince Charles and Lady Diana announced their engagement to the world on 2/24/81. Infuriating fact: after getting engaged to Charles, Diana was shamed into selling her bicycle because it “wasn’t very regal to be riding around London” 😡
On your ride, find a subanagram word (not the object) using just the letters “Charles and Diana”. Take a snapshot, and post your one pic here in the forum.
Happy hunting!

2/23/21 – Mosaic (likeness or word)
On February 23, celebrate National Tile Day by seeking and taking a snapshot of a mosaic – a picture or pattern produced by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass.
The word “mosaic” is also acceptable, but I think it’s safe to say that we the horde prefer the art
