ParticipantArgh! Well done, Team Snowballs. This action merits a response of some kind. (Boowaahahahah)

ParticipantThere are 2+ hours left…. never underestimate Freezing Saddles’ power to incite lunacy!

ParticipantThen I reread the rules and realized it had to include a bike and the flag AND me, which was a bit of a challenge with a smartphone:

I believe this route will get you Lincoln Memorial – Shirlington with little to no ice.
No ice is a good thing! I’m thinking I’ll just try to ride with a convoy of folks more familiar with Arlington than I. This route looks good. Reports from my Strava feed this morning suggest Memorial Bridge is clear, and 14th St. Bridge is icy and yucky.

ParticipantGibby sorry to hear this. If you haven’t already, I’d encourage you to report this to Metro Transit Police – 202-962-2121. It’s a pain, but it’s how Metro can track and hopefully take corrective action about these incidents. And yes, U-Locks are a good thing!

ParticipantAny rationale for riding across Memorial Bridge and up to Rosslyn, then down through Arlington streets, to avoid MVT?

Ok, I am breaking down and getting bar mitts. The weather has convinced me.

2. I am a regular sized human, if slightly soft around the middle (200 lbs, around 5’7″), and wear large sized gloves. What bar mitt size should I purchase?Excellent decision. I bought them for Christmas and am loving them this week. I have always struggled with cold hands riding in winter, but Bar Mitts solved that problem entirely.
I’d say no to sizing up to a large, because these things are so roasty toasty, you may even want thinner gloves under them. On a longer ride last week, my heavier windproof gloves were making my hands sweat and oggy under the Bar Mitts, so I switched to little liner gloves.
The only drawback I see to them is that they kind of force you to stay riding out on the hoods. If you switch to holding the tops, your previously toasty hands are out in the cold.

ParticipantI’m planning to be there; will try to join a convoy if I get my act together soon enough.

Riding your current bike for several months will give you the best possible information on how you would like your next bike to be different
Really good advice!! Hear hear. You know more about you than a Forum.

Not everyone likes fenders, as apparent from the responses on this thread
Fenders are also a really nice courtesy to the bicyclist(s) behind you. Don’t spray ’em!

ParticipantSeriously impressive!

ParticipantDasgeh, what kind of rain cover do you use with your BoBike mini? And for the kid, any special head or face gear?
Thanks!Justin Antos
ParticipantDoes anyone have any tips for how to handle very cold (and wet) mornings with the kid on a front seat? I’m using a Yepp Mini on our dutch bike, but with a bulky winter jacket on the kiddo, I have a hard time getting the straps around him properly, and he just looks uncomfortable. The windscreen looks like overkill that would just get in the way, and he’s almost ready for the Maxi anyways (and besides I’m saving up for an EdgeRunner
.
This morning was our first headwind-rain combo commute, and he was pretty miserable. I’m wondering if I should work on getting the layering right, or just take the bus for the next few days.
Do you put hats on under their helmets? I’m using a Nutcase with earflaps.
