ParticipantThat looks seriously tempting!

ParticipantLooks pretty good. I only know up to the W&OD past West Falls Church, but it’s smooth sailing on trails from downtown to there. The Custis from Rosslyn to Bluemont is hilly, but a good workout. The only alternative to avoiding it is going all the way down to 4-Mile Run and through Shirlington, which is a bit of a long-cut. Have a great ride!

ParticipantAm trending towards just over 4,000 miles for 2011 (including Bikeshare). Although, I had to take a guess at the first three months of the year before I started using RunMeter
.
Happy pedaling!

ParticipantI echo Bruce’s observation that people, realizing that they either cannot fit their bike on a wheelbender, or that it’s very difficult to use their U-lock, end up doing other things that are less desirable! They often end up parking parallel to the rack itself, blocking nearly all the spaces and mostly defeating the purpose of the rack. Or, they lock up to something else entirely – a tree, railing, signpost, etc – that might actually block egress paths and/or break fire codes.
At WMATA too, the inverted-U rack is now our gold standard, and we use APBP guidelines for placement and clearance guidelines. We figure 2 bikes per rack with proper clearance, and inverted-Us are a great way to encourage cyclists to park securely and efficiently.
Good luck!

ParticipantI’d be in for #1! Sounds like fun.
Extra points if your bike is also lit up like Christmas?

ParticipantSo cool! But – how does the front wheel steer? Is there a cable from the front stem/headset?

ParticipantIt’s the other side of town, but I’ve been commuting down East Capitol St. daily for almost 3 years now, and I’m definitely sensing an uptick. This summer was particularly busy, and then especially as it’s gotten colder the past 6 weeks or so, a lot of people are persisting through the cold.
In years past, morning temps in the upper 30s would usually mean I’d have the bike lane to myself, but alot of folks are still out there this year.

ParticipantWow. Geez, this is terrible, serious stuff. Good luck with your recovery, and trying to make it right.

ParticipantSome photos of the installation. (I hope)

ParticipantI just installed a set of green Spoke-Lits last week, and I think they’re great. Cheap and easy, and are extremely visible especially from the side. When turned off, they look just like old-school reflectors.
Definitely attracts some comments, but I figure that means people are noticing me, which is the point.
One unknown is the battery life.
