I’m surprised to hear all the stories about mixups and miscommunication. My ride was pretty good! Our group was probably in the middle/rear of the pack – left around 7:20am, and hit most pitstops, finished around 10am. We hit a bottleneck around N. Marshall Dr and had to walk for a bit, but other than that, smooth sailing.

It was a great day for riding, and the views from the GW Parkway were breathtaking. Sometimes we had to take it slow, but it’s a family ride – best just to smile and pedal onwards :).

The scenery and camaraderie of this ride made me wonder why we don’t use our parkways as parkways more often!

Oh, and the OnGuard keys now have a bottle opener built into the handle :).

I use OnGuard skewers, too. I figure it’s worth the money, especially if you ride and park frequently in the city, even though they’re not foolproof. It makes me feel safer locking on the street when using just a U-Lock.

The only minor drawbacks I’ve encountered are:
    — I’ve had trouble getting enough torque on them with the little key to stop them from moving slightly over time in a horizontal rear dropout on my old Cannondale. There, I switched back to a quick-release.
–Oh, and you have to remember to carry the little key everywhere.

    Good luck!

Yes, the WMATA Bike & Ride facility at College Park is open for testing now – more details on how to sign up are in the brochure Greenbelt posted above, or here. Before we officially open, we’re trying to get feedback from a cyclist’s perspective to make sure everything’s working properly, and to see how we can improve.

So if you sign up and use the facility, let me know what you think! We are trying to learn as much as possible from this as we plan for the future.

What is the ‘correct’ route to ride there? If you’re coming off the 14th St. Bridge northbound, headed up towards the Mall/downtown, where are you supposed to ride?

If your destination is north of M street, you could always cut up to N street within a block or two of the bridge, and then when you hit Wisconsin, head up to P or Q.

Good advice – N is a great alternative to M Street. (This was my commute for a few years) Good luck!

This looks like perhaps a similar model?

It’s a great and welcome improvement, for sure. How do others here navigate the southern end, to continue south on Water Street? Heading south, do you take that sharp right and go across the fish market driveway and into the little roundabout? Hop the curb back onto Maine Ave?

Although, having just watched that magnic light video, I am seriously intrigued!

Not a dynohub, but a similar concept – I’ve had really good luck with Reel Lights. It’s just two lights on the axles, four magnets snapped to spokes, and you’ve got battery-free lights. They’re fairly bright, although not as bright as blinkies, so I use them as a complement/backup to blinkies. They stay blinking for about 30 seconds even if you’re stopped at a light. “Set it and forget it.”

You can adjust the lights so that they stay just a millimeter or two from the magnets on the spokes, so there’s no friction or drag on the wheel.

Also applies on the Mt. Vernon Trail. I usually find a dinging bell makes them waddle to the side.

Here’s a basic correlation between daily temperature and Bikeshare trips. What do you think?

One difficulty that those heading southbound on the MVT headed toward FMR have with regard to yielding to northbound MVT riders is that, especially once things green up, it’s difficult to see the northbound MVT riders until the last minute because…

Also, even without bushes, southbound MVT riders after dark are often staring straight into the headlights of oncoming cars.
