ParticipantCorrect, rail service should be reasonably good after Ballston and points east. Trains will run from Vienna and Wiehle only every 18 minutes, meaning that they may be too full to board after a few stations. 10 trains per hour will turn at Ballston however, so the trains that enter service at Ballston will have capacity. East of Ballston, trains are scheduled to run every 4 minutes or so.

ParticipantWhat if LEED gave points conditionally for bike racks, but only if the builder can show that after a year or something that they’re actually being used? Then the advocacy and encouragement side might follow. And it might encourage the builders to think about their building’s bike accessibility, or lack thereof.

ParticipantOne nice safety outcome of this retiming is the right-hook going west from the East Capitol Street bike lanes into the Capitol Grounds at 1st St. has been reduced dramatically, and replaced with a red light. It used to be that cyclists were overtaking stopped cars in the lane as the light turned green, so car drivers would right-hook fairly predictably.
Now, cyclists approaching from the lights at 3rd and 2nd hit a red light at 1st, so we all collect at the front of the line and go with the leading pedestrian interval. We get out in front of the cars, which is great.
Haven’t yet checked out the timing on Penn – will try tonight.

ParticipantI’d recommend the Mt. Vernon Trail as well. Huntington isn’t terribly pleasant at rush hour if you’re not comfortable taking the lane, so to start I’d say just take sidewalks over to this spot where it’s a nice sidepath over to the MVT. Then just follow all the other cyclists up the trail to the Crystal City connector. And good luck!

ParticipantDoes anyone need prize material? I’ve got some bike schwag/gear/-related items that could stand in for a “prize” if need be.

ParticipantI love this Eddington number thing. How delightfully nerdy – arbitrary yet revealing at the same time. Hozn is it up on the website?
Also… could it be calc’ed at the team level? Just sum on the team’s daily mileage?Justin Antos
ParticipantYes – go after that jrenaut character! He needs more competition.

ParticipantMost of the cycletracks and trails in DC, sun-exposed, are in pretty good shape.

14th St. Bridge, not so much – and even so, it would dead-end into the unplowed Mt. Vernon Trail…

ParticipantWhat’s the best way to THANK Arlington County for doing such a good job plowing the trails? This is great and we should make our support known. It helps provide cover for continuing funding this in the future, and it increases pressure on those who don’t plow commuter trails. Where should I direct my praise?

ParticipantAh! I’ve been following your long ride titles on Strava, but never thought to put them together!

ParticipantSounds to me like other teams need to step up their FUN level and capture them back!
